I have a 15 gallon fresh water tank that is 3 years old. It's well seasoned and the fish in it were all born in the tank. I have platys and guppies and a plecostomous (sp?).

I had to move the tank out of its old location about 5 weeks ago. The old location got some sunlight and we struggled a bit w/algae on the side of the tank. In its current location, it gets no sunlight at all. There is no algae on the walls of the tank, but I have green fluff growing all over the rest of the tank (not on the sides). It looks like green cotton balls. I'm sure the baby fish will appreciate it, but I'm wondering if it's algae. The algae-eater doesn't seem interested in it. Is this algae or some other plant? It's strange, because there is no sunlight there.

Sounds like it may be Hair (thread) algae.

In my tank it was a case of too little CO2 and nutrients for the plants, so the plants couldn't compete with it.

Easy cure:
Siamese Flying foxes (they eat it) they are peaceful and hardy.

Also you could add more fish to produce more CO2. OR just add some CO2 tablets or something like that. :)

Flying foxes cleared mine up (mostly) eventually.

some times there dosen't need to be sunlight on your tank for it to have alge.it could also be fish waste.
