hard but not impossible. Basically you'll need to "hang" a lot of equipment from it...or under it.

1. Good (large) external (canister) filter.
2. Plenty of water movement (spray bar filter return should do).
3. UV filter (keep those diseases down).
5. Protein Skimmer (maybe a hang on the back one...you'll really need one!)
6. Live Rock (helps with filtration, a must really)
7. Undergravel filter (if you have room) with live sand (if you can buy it).

Bascially filter like crazy.

Also, get some good beneficial bacteria to put in the tank. http://www.microbelift.com/ is the best or Nutrafin's Cycle. This will help keep the nasties in check. Keep this up as a regular "treatment".

Oh and you'll probably need more regular water changes.
More monitoring
Very small and few fish (you mentioned this yourself).

MACROALGAE - Just thought I'd shout that out. Get some, it will help control Ammonia, Nitrites and (after the filter is conditioned) Nitrates. Also it will probably compete with microalgae for nutrients - which means less algae scraping.

Like said above so some searches for nanoreefs (I know you don't want a reef tank, but the facts still apply). It is totally not impossible...but a challenge for sure. :)

There are no saltwater fish that will survive and thrive in under 10 gallons.

very difficultly, although possible, but not recommended. The smaller the water volume, the more perfect your water parameters have to be. any slight change could be disasterous because you don't have much water to mess with...ie: you might be able to get away with a slight increase in nitrates in a 100gal tank but if that same increase happens in a 10g tank the affect could be magnified 10x (not to mention any increase in nitrates could have a deleterious effect in some of your more senstive corals)

if this is your first set up, DO NOT have a 10gal or less tank. you will get very frustrated trying to keep everything in check.

DID ANYONE TELL YOU THAT IT IS HARD TO MAINTAIN A SMALL MARINE TANK THAN A MUCH LARGER ONE ? WELL IF NOT THEN I'M THE FIRST TO ALERT YOU. YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO OVER LOAD YOU 10 GALLON WITH AMMONIA EVERY TIME AND ALSO YOUR VERY VERY LIMITED WITH ADDING ANYTHING IN THE TANK DUE TO IT'S VOLUME. I'M HOPING YOUR GOING TO USE A GOOD CANISTER FILTER LIKE AN EHIEM A PROTEIN SKIMMER AND DEFINITELY, KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE WINDOW OR ANY OTHER HEAT SOURCE OR IT WILL OVER HEAT QUICKLY BECAUSE IT'S NOT ALOT OF WATER, AND SOON YOU FISH WILL SUFFER-CATE AND DIE.

just like the bigger ones, but with smaller stuff. you need a protein skimmer, maybe a filter, heater, proper lighting etc. search on the internet for nano fish tank or nano reef tank. that should help
