Am I harming my betta's because they are NOT in a "heated" aquarium?

I'm am getting ready to buy a 150 gallon fish tank and I love to watch my fish swim around. If you could put any kind of FREASHWATER fish in what would you do and how many? Also what live plants would you get?

I live in an apartment, and the only type of pet I can have is fish. I know I want a betta or two. They are beautiful. I know you cant have two males in one tank, so Im hoping to get two females, since I am not wanting baby bettas.

I have a couple of questions though.

I want an aquarium (tank), not a bowl... but Iv read that moving water is bad for bettas. Is this true? Or could I have a water filter? If so, would I need to find a slow moving one?

Whats the best size tank for two bettas? I dont want a ten gallon. I need as small as I can get without sacrificing the fish health.

I know this one will sound dumb, but does the shape of the tank matter?

Whats the best type of food (reasonably priced) for their diet?

Also, do they like plant life? If so, should I get real plant life (and what kind)? Or would plastic be sufficent?

Thanks so much for your help!

I am assuming that the mature female guppy will be slightly larger..but I would like to separate them now...they are about 1/2- 1" right now. I know that there has been considerable debate as to whether these are separate species or not. I believe that they now have their own status. Can anybody advize me? Thanks.

I have a 1.77 Hagen tank. I searched the internet and it says that a goldfish needs a minimum of 30 gallons! o.O Also i was thinking of adding a fathead minnow or a white cloud. but do you think the tank would be too small? (p.s. i dont think i can buy a huge tank. im only a kid -_-)

I was given a 60 gallon tank and an African Ciclid. I was wondering what types of other fish I can put in with it. I don't have a picture of it but it is blue with orange on it's tail and fins.

I have a one year old rubber-lined pond with NO drain. How do you recommend cleaning it? I have a siphon-hose vacuuming tube for my indoor aquarium, but I have no idea how to clean out a pond. I tried using the siphon hose in the pond, but it did not allow enough suction to lift out the sludge and debris because it's underground (gravity). I see a lot of rotting leaves and sludge at the bottom of the pond that needs to be removed, and my pond net is not helping (the debris just flows right through it!). Is there a "pond vacuum" or other cleaning system I can use to clean out my pond? Please recommend something out there I can buy to clean out my pond! Thanks!

I have 5 non-aggresive fish (tetras & barbs) and one semi-aggressive (angelfish). The angelfish is always bullying the others. What is a good way to dispose of him? Are there any pet stores that will buy him.

Ok, I've been getting mixed information, on this. Typically I've been told for my tropical fish 1" of fish for every gallon is recommended. Do I count my bottom feeders, and frogs in this?

I have 3 male bettas.1 has a 5 gallon tank, the other 2 each have a ten. They are filtered, heated(76-82F), have silk plants, and 1-3 hideouts. My problem is 1 of the bettas in the 10 gal doesnt seem to like tank mates. He terrorized 4 minnows I put in there( now in 29 gal) and when I floated a bag w/ 2 baby otocinclus in there,he flared and kept charging them, so I put them in the 29 gal community tank w/ minnows. I dont want to put him in a different tank so I can put fish w/ him, so would it be best if I had only him in there? Next question, the other male betta was in a 5 gal w/ african dwarf frogs, & was fine w/ them & has had a bag with platies & guppies floating in a tank, I didnt put them in there I was just equalizing the temp so I could put them in other tank &didnt seem to care, so could I put 3 cories & 2 ottos w/ him in the 10 gal he is in now? Now my last question, in the 5 gal, would it be ok to put 5 large ghost shrimp in there w/ the remaining betta?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 55 gal freshwater tank that is home to 6 African Cichlids and a Lobster. I've been having ammonia problems and have been doing 25% water change everyday to keep the ammonia level at 1.0ppm or lower. I've also tested my Nitrites (1.0ppm), and PH (8.2ppm). Recently the Lobster is in his usual daytime spot underneath a rock formation, but today his is there lying on his side against the glass. I gave him a little poke to see if he was dead and he quickly took off, only to return to the spot 5 minutes later still lying on his side. I’m not sure what kind of Lobster it is, I have taken pictures of him and posted the links below. In them you can see him in his current state, lying on his side. It seems pretty obvious that he is dying; does anyone know what I can do to help him?

I started my first fish tank three weeks ago. Two days after we brought home fish, we had fry. We saved two of them. All of the fish appear to be doing well. (What do I know though, really?) Suddenly, last night, the black mollie was bent into a U-shape on the bottom of the tank. No more black mollie. The other fish appear to be still doing alright, even the fry (which I wasn't sure I'd be able to raise!). Anybody have an idea what happened to Blackie?
