Those types of things are really much more for what you want instead of what the fish want. Decorate your tank whith whatever catches your eye at the pet shop and usually the fish will be fine.

Bettas don't care. The rocks you speak of are mostly suited to Cichlids (African or S. American).
Bettas are native in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and prefer warm water- at least 75 degrees is neccessary. As you may know, they have a special respiratory organ that allows them to breath from the surface of the water.
Contrary to modern vogue, small containers are not suitable. They need at least 3-5 gallons.
I assume you know not to put two males together, they will fight to the death. For a show, put a mirror up to his tank.

Or, you could buy some nice rocks that the fish could hide from everyone behind. The fish will probably prefer the rocks. Most likely the fish didn't go to interior decorators school.

anything that your fish can swim into or under or hide in will make it feel more secure. he will be less worried of being eaten(even if he is alone in the bowl) because he has a place to escape from danger and he will be less likely to give himself a health issue from worrying.

If the bowl/aquarium is large enough to accomodate one. Betas love to hide. But overcrowding it's swimming space is far worse than not giving it a place to hide.

bettas are territorial and like having something that is theirs. different ones have different tastes. in general they prefer large leafy plants to hang out in. silk works great. some will love rocks and things they can hang out in.
