I have an African Cichlid what other fish can I put in with it? It's in a 60 gallon tank that was given to me. He looks lonely and I want a different type of fish to add in with him.

The previous answers you have received offer good advice. As a rule, African Cichlids are the most aggressive of collectible tropicals. Some S. American Cichlids can give them a run for their money. It is important that your tank have a balance of "power". Your fish should be of the same aggression level and of the same size. You can not have a very aggressive 1" fish and expect it to hold up against a less aggressive species that is 3" long. You should be ok if you add another African or four as long as they are about the same size.

Africans generally come from either Lake Tanganyika or Lake Malawi. Generally speaking, the environment is one of rocks sans vegetation. Build many rock "apartments". Reply for more info.

If you have just one fish, add other africans. Check with a local fish store specializing in africans to get a good mix. Now, once you have your africans set, try a clown loach. A clown loach or tiger botia (Chromobotia macracanth) does well in a african cichlid tank. They are colorful and gregarious with their own species. They thrive in the same water conditions as african cichlids and, for some reason, the Africans don't bother them. I have a 100 gallon mixed african tank with 3 clown loaches. It's been up for two years now and all is well.

specific what you have basically shared are actual, cichlids will attack new fish in a tank. besides the undeniable fact that with some attempt you may superb this small problem via first removing all your cichlids from the tank and rearrange the rocks and different decorations and put in the recent fish first. look ahead to a minimum of sometime in the previous you re-introduce the cichlids.

Other african cichlids are by far and away the best choices for tank mates. Try to find out what kind yours is ( you could post a pic here and someone will know) and that will help you know how big it will get and just how mean it really is.

You need to figure out what lake it comes from. Whether or not its agressive. Cichlid general have higher temperature requirements then most fish. You should look for cichlids from the same environment as the one you have. Most fish like to have another fish of their type with them. You may be able to stick it will community fish. Can you post a picture of your fish or give more of a description?

Oscar fish
they are very smart for a fish, and they like to play with rocks and mirrors, and will eat out of your hand and recognize people somehow.
I liked my oscar so much, i sold my cichlid, cuz the cichlid was a lil $hthead

you need to find out what species it is, where its from, and if its aggressive or not. You can get another cichlid of teh same size(adult size), tempormant, and region.

You could put plecosthemous (spelling?). But they aren't exactly sociable.
