i dono.....it's not like they have a real purpose in life except to eat, poop, or be eaten....natural selection eliminates traits in animals that they don't need anymore for survival....i guess a memory didn't merit approval

They don't have a 3 second memory, this has been proven my many people. They have been trained to swim through hoops, eat out of your hand, ect. If they had a 3 second memory they could never be trained. It has been proven that fish have the reasoning abilities of a 5 year old child.

They don't actually have a three second memory, I can't remember what their real memory capabilities are supposed to be, but it is better than 3 seconds.
They aren't stupid, they just don't have any real need for a great memory. And besides, we can't read their minds, maybe there is more going on in there than we give them credit for. :)

They don't. Whenever I, and only I, walk into the fish room, my fish swim to the top of the tank anticipating food. They don't do that with other people, so they not only have long term memories but can also recognize people. One guy trained his fish to swim to one side of the tank whenever they wanted food, using behavioralism.

they don't. it's already proven that goldfish have a memory of over 48 hours on mythbusters and in books. whoever made that up is just being dumb.
