Fish - February 2007

I have 3 fancy goldfish, and one of my fish will go to the top and flip upside down and it pretty much looks like its dead, but if i tap on the glass slightly or put my face up to the tank it will go back down to the bottom acting like nothing happened, is this how they sleep?I know that goldfish sleep but how do fancy goldfish sleep?

I have a tank for tadpoles/frogs. I filled it half full and put a divider in a corner that is used in turtle tanks. I want to fill up that corner with gravel to give the frogs ( and crickets they eat) a dry place. I was thinking of using turned over gladware plastic bowls for this filler. Is plastic good to put in fish tanks?

I see farm raised Tilapia at the supermarket all the time. I don't want to go into buisness or anything. I was just wondering if raising a few Tilapia was possible.

I set up a 55 gallon on tuesday (kept a shrimp in the tank tuesday night and wednesday) and then put 6 blue tetras in on thursday. I seeded the aquarium with a filter from a 10 gallon along with some rocks and some other filter squeezings. The shrimp caused my water ammonia levels to go up to .5 before adding the bacteria. Upon adding the seeded material, and putting the 6 fish in the ammonia is down to 0 today. So far no nitrite readings. Everything is at 0. when is it safe to add a few more fish. The aquairum the seeding material came from has about 10 fish in it right now.

I have a 10 gallon tank. I,ve had it for 5 months. I have 10 fish, like fancy guppys and a black molly. I add water to it but I have not changed the water. I am worried I am not doing enough. My big black molly just got some white on one side of her. What is that?
I also have a bio wheel and a heater. And two dwarf frogs.

I have a 55gal saltwater tank w/2 true percula clowns and 1 volital lionfish. We want to start getting coral. We have the normal lighting that came with the kit. 2 All-glass 24" Fluorescent bulbs (120volt, 19watt, 60hz). Will we need to change the whole hood, or can we just change the bulbs?

Can a "Beta" have a closed lid environment, such as a vase like dish with a candle holder that sits on top. Can the fish still get enough air from the space between the water and the lid? It makes a beautiful centre peice, but can it breath?

I have had one of my mollies and three guppies for three weeks. (Two guppy fry have been in a net inside the tank for two days less than that.) Today I added a mollie and a pleocostemus (sp?) to the tank. The original mollie is sort of shivering and turning onto its side by the other mollie. Should I be worried?

Hi dudes and duddettes. I plan to buy some fish for my daughter, some that wont need too much special care (tropical would be ideal since the temperature here raises up to 42 C). Could you advise me on this one? I know the tank is pretty small, so I dont want to overcrowd it. Thanx

Hi there. I just purchased a pair of albino guppies 2 weeks ago (a male and a female and noticed small pink-orange little balls inside the belly of the female guppy, but now her belly looks darker, and slightly bigger. Why is this? Is she pregnant? Are the fry dead (hence the dark color)? is it just a huge dropping? Thanx, any help will be appreciated.

I recently bought an aquarium and decided to go saltwater. Anyone have any advice or tips they wanna share with me. Am I missing anything? I am mostly following what my LFS (Local Fish Store) has told me to do. I added BioSpira (bacteria used for cycling). And every week I add 15mL of Cycle. Email me if you want to see a picture. I still don't have a test kit, and I know I need one. What should I look for in a kit? I heard that using water from the beach would be best to top off my tank. I live in Florida and a trip to the beach isn't too hard.

So here's my set-up.
*29 gallon tank
*Heater
*therometer
*crushed coral (about 1inch)
*2 lbs. of LR (LiveRock)
*A trickle filter, atleast that's what I think it is called. (It sucks up water through a tube and processes it through carbon and a biofilter)
*Shells from the beach (yes they're clean)
*A castle
*A Hydrometer

So again any advice?

So I have 4 pet fish and one is sitting in the corner, kinda shaking and miving her fins fast and the other fish are swimming all crazy like around her. Her belly is huge so maybe she's pregnant? If anyone knows anything about pregnant fish or whatever, I am scared she is going to die!
