I have a standard sized bowl [about a gallon] with one male betta.

My mom is considering getting a female to be his companion, but I'm afraid that he might kill her.

I don't mind if they mate, but I am wondering if the female will be okay with the male.

Well as a last resort to dealing with my continuing ammonia problems, I have replaced 1/2 of my fish tank water with distilled water. The pet store recommended trying the distilled water. Will it really make that big of a difference?

Could it really be something in my tap water creating my ammonia problems? I've tested my tap water for ammonia and its very low if any at all.

After a day or so, it takes typically three 30% water changes in the same day to bring the ammonia levels back down. So theres not really any extra food or waste in there as often as I'm vacuuming it out.

How fast should my bio wheel actually spin? Mine spins very slowly, sometimes even stop for a second or so, then slowly spins again.

I thought it was build up in the filter, so I took the filter apart and cleaned it (didn't clean the bio wheel obvisuly). Replaced the filter too, so I know its not a restrictive factor.

Is this normal?

I had to put tap water into my beta fish's tank because i was out of distilled water. I used de-chlorinator in it and then put my fish in. A week later i noticed that my fish seems to be losing scales around the gill area and they look almost like shallow gouges on his gills. He seems happy and looks fine other than his gills, he is actually shinier then he was when i had him in distilled water! Someone please tell me if this is caused by the change in water types and what i should do about it!! Thanks ahead of time for any answers! :-)

I just got a new danio fish and I don't know what to feed it. Tetra tropical flakes, freeze dried blood worms, or something else.

Just wondering. Thanks in advance to those that answer. Additional details of why the breathing rate goes up or down would help.

When I let my Albino Clawed Frog into the tank, it sped as fast as it could and rammed the side of the tank, forcing his eye back into his head (the dome that is supposed to cover his eye is still there however). Fortunately, he survived, but has been putting on a little weight since the incident, and has grown to twice the size of the other ACF i got.

Are these two incidents related in any way?

Help appreciated

I have a sarassa comet in a 55 gal tank with two comets and two koi. The sarassa has a sore on its side. I thought maybe it got it from a decoration since it is the only one. I medicated with melafix, but have not seen any differnce, not worse or better. Any suggestions on other treatments?

His fins are clamped and very ragged. he has a cut on his head and he keeps going upside down. I think its a swimmbladder problem but I don't know if thats it and I want to Know if he's sick or just beat up before I put him in the tank.

I recently had a tank full of zebrafish and guppies dumped on me. I have a filter, heater and thermostat in the tank and they've been doing fine for about a month. I had no decorations or rocks in there until a friend gave me some gravel. I rinsed it very well and put it in the tank, and now all of my guppies are hovering together in a corner at the top of the tank, and the zebrafish stay in the middle, but also at the top. I lost a guppy this morning and some of the stupid snails (that snuck in through the old owner's filter) are dead too. My zebra's are looking bloated. Any idea what's wrong?

At first i thought it might be from getting scratched by rocks or from getting into fights, but it dosen't look like those kind of scars. It looks like tiny little red sores and they are on his under belly. Could it be a body ulcer? If not, what do you think it is? How can i help him? Thank you in advance!

We just bought a Angelina loach and then it was gone, nowhere to be found for 3 days. So we thought it died, we searched everywhere and we thought the catfish ate it, so we took out the catfish. But before we could catch the catfish we took out the sunken ship we had in the tank. So then it took me 5 minutes or so to catch the catfish then I was watching it in the other tank to make sure it was ok for 5 minutes. Then I go back to the first tank and put the sunken ship back in. 5 minutes later I see the loach come out of the sunken ship alive and well!!!! So he was in the inside of the ship attached to the side or something for 10 minutes completely out of the water and survived!!

Amazing or not???

I have 3 guppies, 2 females and a male. One female is the largest of the three and is a royal pain...she bites and chases the smaller female and the male, the other female also attacks the male.My question is, why are my female guppies attacking the male? they are just relentless about it...and yesturday the little female was so frantic trying to get away from the biger one that she got herself caught in the plants and was stuck up side down absalutly freaked. i had to chase the bigger girl away...then she promptly started attacking the male...if she wont stop, forget seperation i am flushing her.
