I have a sarassa comet in a 55 gal tank with two comets and two koi. The sarassa has a sore on its side. I thought maybe it got it from a decoration since it is the only one. I medicated with melafix, but have not seen any differnce, not worse or better. Any suggestions on other treatments?

how is the water condition? healty fish should recover quickly from minor abbrasion.

what u can do is test the water, remove any sharp objects from the aquarium.

should the water condition is excellent, the fish should show improvement in a few days. however should you see your fish is getting sluggish, have him quarantined with another fish. You may feed sparringly with medicated feed or antibiotics(please ask for instructions, depending on the antibiotics given)

Ok start with Melafix does not work!!!! It didn't did it? Try salt treatment for 2 weeks. 4 teaspoons non iodized rock salt (kosher or ice cream salt is ok) per gallon. Break up dosing in the tank like 1 teaspoon per gallon in morning then again at night then same thing next day. Raise the temp to 82 and add additional airstones. After 2 weeks do consecutive water changes until water is salt free. Also you can put hydrogen peroxide on the wound, use sterile cotton and dab the spot, if you can catch him. Don't use peroxide if the wound is near the eyes or gills. Peroxide will often clear up fin erosion too! Don't medicate with anything Petsmart sells you. They many many times are completely clueless. You will learn this after you kill your fish several times over. If you do not know exactly the pathogen how do you know what med to put in there? How on earth would they know? Diagnosis requires a micro-scope. Please don't believe them. Melafix is a waste of money.

It really depends on the cause of the sore and if it is infected or not.
