i was recently given a Betta fish as a gift for Valentines day, i have him in a one and a half, maybe two gallon vase(no plant, just the fish) i was just wondering if i could put a few snails in with him, hes in there all alone and i did have some marbles in the bottom but i wanted to see if he liked the little bit of extra room so hes all alone. and just out of couriosity, how often to Betta fish poop? ive not noticed any today and i just cleaned his vase. also, i do plan on getting a proper set up soon for him, he deserves the best. i just cant right now, he was a suprise gift at the most inopertune moment, but i love him and want the best for him, im not saying he was an unwelcome gift, just a suprise.

This is the smallest tank I've ever seen. It's like maybe 2 gallons with a filter system and a light over the top. I'm wondering if the bubbles are suppossed to come from the top rear of the filter (which is suction to the side of the glass) or in front after passing through the charcoal filter. Also can the filter be cleaned or do I need to buy a new one. It just doesn't seem right, but what do I know? The owners are in Whales and I doubt they know much about it either.

Is a 10gal tank too small for a green wolf eel? There are no other fish in the tank. I have everything in the tank healthy and cycled, and I heard that they can be kept in smaller tanks with little risk of stress. I have a perfect habitat set up for it, other than the size of its accomidations.

I just got guppies and noticed they lie at the bottom of the tank sometimes. I thought they were dead but they get up and swim around. Are they sleeping? Or are they dying? :(

I have years of experience with freshwater but I am just starting to cycle a fowlr 75 gallon tank with live rock (no fish yet). The live rock is showing great life but I would love to have more color and texture.

I am not ready for a reef tank. I like to take things in baby steps! Lots less stress. Also, the hood/lighting on my tank is the regular one bulb that comes with freshwater tanks and I am thinking about changing the lighting. I would appreciate suggestions and if known the cost expectations...

Thanks so much!

I guess I'm not the first person to ask this question - but I want to put it out there anyway. I brought 3 fish home a few days ago. One of them is completely not symmetrical - its fins are tattered and one looks like a pimple (is that a sign of infection?) I think he got caught in the net at the store - and we should have said something, but we didn't. What's the best solution?

I'm setting up a salt water tank for the first time, alot of people has told me the pros a cons on spring water. I really do not want to go wrong here. I do not mind spending the money for a one time fill up, but is it really safe to use bottled spring water? Have others done it with success?

I have brought 4 new Aust. baby red claws as my last 5 died the night I got them. My new crayfish survived the night but not the day all but one died I have taken this last one out of the tank and into a empty butter container for now until I know whats wrong this last crayfish seems ok but he is climbing the rocks as if to get out of the water or seeking air Is this normal
I have done everything the pet store told me to the water has been neutralised for chlorine I have fed my crayfish once as it has only been 24hrs since I got him tried giving him more but after an hour I took it out as he didnt want it He has rocks to climb and a hiding spot
My last crayfish all died around the same time as each other I found them lying belly-up on the bottom of my tank I have read of some where people have thought their crays where dead but infact molting They would not respond to being moved and seemed lifeless Is there a way to tell if they where molting? And how can I stop them dying?
HELP!!

I am reposting this under another question b/c my initial question had little reply and we really need help:
We put a rubber mat under the pump to reduce vibration noise and by the next day 5 of our fish are dead and two are dying. We have a salt water tank w/live rock. The entire tank now smells like rubber and so does the live rock. What happened? We have actually seen rubber mats suggested for this purpose? What do we do now except thouroughly clean our tank and mourn our lost fish? Does anyone know what would have caused this?

I have a bunch of white circular spots in my tank on the glass and other rocks. I looked at one of my saltwater snails the other day and one of them grew and there was a feather coming out of it. I looked closer at the other ones and if you look extremely close, there is something that looks like a feather on them. They are white. I'm not for sure that all these specks are feather dusters but I don't know much about them. They seem to keep duplicating in my tank and I'm not too sure what to do about that. There seems to be more and more everyday. there are 2 of them that are bigger with about 2 mm long of "feathers". Is anyone knowledgeable in this area and could help me out as to if they are feather dusters and if they duplicate fast?

i have a fantail, and i think it has swim bladder problem as it keeps floating to the surface.
I've tried lots of things starting when i first noticed it (it rose slowly) i've tried not feeding it for three days and then feeding it only peas for three days.
I change 20% of the water weekly.
And i feed it flake food (usually) and i always soak it for atleast 1 mintue. But the swim bladder problem just got worse. i'm sure i don't over feed it because i have another fantail (same size) which eats more than this one but hasn't got swim bladder problem.
i think its because my fantail is swalling air. Occasionally i see it suck in air and then spit some out.. please help

I'm interested in having some Betta fish. I'm new to taking care of fish so I'm not quite sure how to take care of them. According to petco.com, male bettas can't be housed together, but females can. Is this true and are females taken care of the same way as males?

If you have any good websites to help me, that would be great! Thanks!
