I bought a starfish the other day and he died 2 days later. I have fish hermit crabs and small starfish. could he have died from the salt water not being at the right ph or too many nitrates?

I have 2 goldfish. The one has had very interesting behavior the past couple of days. I call them Harry and Wilson. Wilson has been chasing Harry feverishly around the tank...almost like he is attacking him. I researched this and it sounds like Harry is really a she and may have egg sacs that Wilson can "smell". Not sure though. Harry has been hiding under a tree/log in the tank all day long. I have moved it a couple of times because at first I couldnt find him. He would swim out and around but immediately Wilson would follow him and be on his tail. Harry is back under the log and I have left him be. He is so tiny I am afraid he will become stuck and wont be able to get food when I feed them. What do you think?

She has not given birth yet, I know the fish will eat the babies, but I have a bunch of plants in the tank. What are the chances of them surviving with just plants, and not seperating them.

I tried to seperate her last night and she somehow escaped from the breeding container she was in.

It isn't eating and it has white spots all over it's body. I think my dad said that it had a disease but I'm not sure. He's some sort of shark i think.

i did have a black moor goldfish in with my peacock eel, but i gave the goldfish to the petstore. i had them without a heater and the temp was only 65 degrees so i got a heather and it now stays constant at 77-78 and my eel is a lot more active. he was at that temp of 65 for a week. i tried flakes and bloodworms with no luck, but tried some small live earthworms and he ate them. He now has 4 new tank mates. they are 4 dwarf gouramis, also 2 ghost shrimp,, one died. or was killed, and now i can only find one.. haha maybe the eel had a new snack! i hope so!. my tank is ten gallons and i do weekly 20% water changes is cycled and healthy. My question is how often should i feed the eel the live worms, and will the eel and dwarf gouramis get along well?

Thanks

I personally think it's disgusting. They don't even care. I bought these to because I felt so sorry for them. One passed away because he was so sick. The other betta managed to make it and she is healthy now. At first she was just dull. Swimming around. So weak... People continued to pass her up. Now she is bright and blue and silver and the most beautiful fish I have ever seen she swims around so happily. What do you think of wal-mart? I have went to petsmart where they take CARE of their fish. Thank god they stopped selling fish! But I can't help but wonder what happened to the fish wal mart did have? I see very few in those dirty FILTHY disgusting tanks!!

My boyfriend and I just set up the 10 gallon tank approx. 1 1/2 weeks ago, and our 4 Danios are doing well. We are debating over what other fish we want to add to the tank and could use some advice...
He likes Bala Sharks and would like to put 2 in the tank.
I would like to put a Male Betta in with maybe 2 Gold Danios or maybe 3 Neon Tetras.
This is our first tropical tank we have both only had feeder fish before, so any suggestions are really helpful.
Thanks!!

I have two white mollies and I think that one is pregnant. She is rounded around the belly and is staying at the bottom of the tank. She is swimming in a strange way - like shaking slightly.

Also, the male is following her around all the time. I have also noticed that her eyes are also mor eblack than the males and she is literally falling tot he bottom of the tank. I have put her in the nursery just in case but can anyone offer any advise.

They killed them and said they are not selling them any more. I think this is a disgrace. They could have given them away don't you think. It was just on my local news.

I have a 48 gallon tank. It is 36 inches tall, 20" wide and 18" deep.

The inhabitants I have are:

4 tiny zebra danios
6 regular sized mollies
2 platys
5 female bettas.
2 mini cory cats
1 dwarf groumi
2 small swordtails.

Can I put more in or am I at capacity. The reason I ask is because sometimes the inch per fish rule does not apply and the tank looks fairly empty.

The tank has been up and running for almost 2 months now.

I've asked other questions and determined that my mollies were mating; however, now one of them (we think it's the female, not really sure) is staying near the bottom of the tank with her(?) tail up, just hovering. Her fins are barely moving. She's been very active. Is she napping, sick, other...? Anybody have an idea?

I thought it was an arrow crab but I'm really not sure now. It looks like a stick plant, but it is an invert of some sort. It moves real slow, and it stands up like a preying mantis, instead of crouched down like an arrow crab. I have seen then 3" tall and 8" tall. What is this thing? I really want one, but dont know what it is? Thanks for your help.

I've been fighting this stuff for 6 months now. I've cut back light to the point the plants are about stressed, cut back fertilizer, added more plants, increased CO2 but I'm just not winning this fight.
Short of tearing this tank down, has anyone had any luck eradicating BBA?

Hi, I have a 55gallon tank I'm trying to set up. How much gravel does it take for one without an undergravel filter? (It's got the one that hangs on the back)
Is there any kinds of gravel I need to avoid?
What do I need to make sure I DON'T use in it in order to keep the ph down?
What natural ways are there to lower the ph? (Still having a very high ph problem)
What chemicals are a waste of money, for equalizing it out and new setup?
Thanks in advanced for your help.

I have several tadpoles in an aquarium. In on side I have a divider that is not waterproof. I have piled up gravel and some large stones behind the divider. The top of the gravel is dry but underneath is soaked with water. I have a good filter running through the tank. But will stuff start growing in the gravel that is on the other side of the divider.
