No the shark in Jaws was considerably larger than the 16 foot maximum size of great white sharks. In fact they used a midget for much of the diving scenes. Of course 16 feet is still pretty big. There are larger sharks than the great white, but they are filter feeders. The whale shark, and basking sharks are much larger. Basking sharks reach 40 feet, and look very shark like. Whale sharks are heavier, wider, and look more whale like and can reach 41 feet.
About 1.6 million years ago there was a shark called Megalodon that may have reach 40-50 feet. It's thought to have greatly resembled the great white.

There are sharks whale sharks and basking sharks however they are not meat eaters they are filter feeders (krill plankton) and really don't have teeth per sei.
The largest shark known to have ever existed was the Megalodon (Carcharodon or Carcharocles megalodon); it is now extinct. It was an ancient, meat-eating shark that lived between 25 million and 1.6 million years ago. It was up to 40 feet (12 m) long and its teeth were each the size of a person's hand!
The oceanic white-tipped sharks are the most fearless predators. Jacques-Yves Cousteau says that it is: "the only species of shark that is never frightened by the approach of a diver, and they are the most dangerous of all sharks."
The strongest shark bite belongs to the dusky shark (Carcharhinus obscurus); its jaws have been measured to exert 132 pounds of force
A specialized osmoregulatory system enables the bull shark to cope with dramatic changes in salinity -- from the freshwaters of some rivers to the highly saline waters of the ocean
The largest meat eating shark is the great white. Reaching up to 22 feet and 5,000 pounds.
This was the shark portrayed in Jaws and does not come close to the size in the movie.
The movie was based on a bull shark that was in a FRESH water river. It killed numerous people.
No there are no meat eating sharks that size alive today.

the whale shark (40-50ft) and the basking shark (20-40ft) are two of the largest sharks out there in the oceans.
for a great white though, check the link below, that was one of the biggest ones ever caught, quite up to jaws standards i think!
and the link below that is an old photo found in archives, guestimate was 16-18ft long.

There was a Shark called "Megladon" that was approximately three times bigger than the current Great White Shark.
Although it is supposed to be extinct, there could still be some out there as it was still around when humans first started sailing on the seas.

Yup! Go to blockbuster and rent a movie called Air Jaws. It's a documentary by National Geograpics or Discovery. It's crazy how big these things are!

Some are much bigger,e.g. the Whale shark...if you look at the prehistoric ones, we're talking the size of a train car or more. I have a tooth from one that's just a little bit smaller than the size of my hand.
