Hi thanks for stopping by. I am thinking of adopting a 2 year old daschund. I saw him at an adoption fair and fell in love. But the only thing is I can't have an indoor dog because I have a 17 month old and another baby due in may. My 17 month ond dosen't realize that she is not supposed to sit on the cat, (which I never let her do, but have caught her trying several times). Anyhow would this dog do okay outside with a dog house and warm bed or would that be cruel because they have short coats? I live in an area that does get snow about once or twice a year and only a couple inches and it is gone within a day or two. Thanks.

My in-laws' dog is four years old and un-neutered. They were supposedly going to breed him but haven't done anything. I know neutered dogs are calmer because they aren't all hyped up on hormones. He is so spastic that he will knock my one-year old daughter over and sit on her when she's on someone's lap. He is out of control and I'm afraid he's going to hurt her. I know it could just be his personality, but other relatives have dogs from the same litter who are fixed and NOTHING like him (MUCH calmer). When I told my mother-in-law to fix him I phrased it by saying it would be good for the dog (lower chances of prostate/testicular cancer). She was like, "I know," but that's it. She hasn't done anything. I would think she would want to do something good for his health and protect her granddaughter from getting injured by him but I guess not. My husband has said we can kidnap him and just fix him for them, lol. What should I do?

i just got a 8 week old pitbull puppy about 5 days ago, at first all he would do was pee on the floor and i figred he knew not to go on the floor but peed because he couldn't controll his bladder....but now he is pooping on the floor in the past 2 days, he started pooping on the floor he will stop if someone sees him and yells at him or grabs him while he is doing it, but he still doesn't know not to do it in the house.....it's like he isn't even learning at all, we reward him with a treat and luvins when he does go outside, and tell him no really loud when he does it in the house and immediatly put him outside....i don't know what i am doing wrong..it has been about 8 years since i have had a indoor dog and even longer since we have had to house train a puppy...in fact i never house trained a puppy ever before, i've gotten dogs before that were already house trained.....the only puppy i ever had before was a outside dog...

My 5 month old pup and I are bored with playing fetch all the time. We do play a little tug of war, but i want to replace that one with one where she doesn't have to bite, she often bites me instead of the toy, and it hurts!!!
I know of a game where you hide stuff for them to find, but i have no idea of how to teach her to play that.
Any suggestions? Details on how to are greatly appreciated.

My husky loves to swim but even with a hair dryer I'm finding it impossible to dry his undercoat completely. The dampness seems to be irritating his skin. I run into the same issue when I bathe him. Any suggestions?

Who here has dogs that have the universal blood type that are used as blood donors in vet clinics? I have not been on the local vets lists for a few years. I had a couple that were used as donors before and am going to have some of my others typed soon as well.

First of all, I'm poor. I've got a part-time job and am in grad school.

I'm a big fan of holistic medicine and have often given my dog (and myself) herbs and homeopathy and things that have made a big difference in his health.

He's 13 years old and recently he's developed some bladder problems. Yesterday he actually started peeing in the house, which is really unusual for him. He gets a number of kidney supporting herbs/supplements (such as cranberry). When I started giving this to him, it seemed to improve a lot, but now it's gotten bad again.

So my dilemma: I'd really like to take him to a holistic vet. From my preliminary research, the holistic vets in the area are expensive and don't have immediate openings... One I found that sounded good I'd need to wait about 2 weeks for an appointment.

1. Do you think that, given the symptoms I described, it would be OK to wait a couple weeks to have him seen by a vet?

My poor babies have scratched and chewed themselves raw! What can I do to help them. We are getting ready for another round of advantage to try and completely rid them of the fleas, but I'm worried about their skin. It's dry and swollen and they have ripped most of their hair off. What can I do to help them?

I realized that he doesn't like to get his feet wet in the morning (dew), so he poops inside. She is brilliant. She lets me know when she has to "go," but he is hardheaded and won't "go" outside. What can I do?

Our friends dog lives outside in a large fenced area..He loves living outside, but he is killing so many birds... So far he has killed 5, and he brings them to her like a gift..
She doesnt want him to continue to kill all these birds, but she also doesnt want to put him on a chain..
--People have recomended that she tie the dead birds around his neck or beat him with the dead birds..but she isnt going to do that, so please dont recomend this!

Is there anything she can do to keep her dog from killing these birds?

I have a dog who is about 9 monthes old. She is potty trained, well behaved, and knows how to do tricks. I leave her inside all day and before I leave I pick up anything she might chew on..napkins, trash, etc. Lately she has been ripping holes in my couch cushions and pulling out the stuffing. I leave her oustide and she chews on the siding! I punish her and she just doesn't get it. She has about a thousand toys and bones to chew on. Why does she chew the couch? I want he to stop but have no idea how. I want to leave her inside but I don't want my couch to be ruined either. Help?
