Our friends dog lives outside in a large fenced area..He loves living outside, but he is killing so many birds... So far he has killed 5, and he brings them to her like a gift..
She doesnt want him to continue to kill all these birds, but she also doesnt want to put him on a chain..
--People have recomended that she tie the dead birds around his neck or beat him with the dead birds..but she isnt going to do that, so please dont recomend this!
Is there anything she can do to keep her dog from killing these birds?

Put a bell on his collar so the birds have a warning and should fly away before he gets to them.

Dogs are hunters they are going to kill prey, birds are prey. It is just in thier nature not much can be done and chianing the dog well casue far worst problems than killing a few birds. Tie a bell on the dog so the birds have a warning its coming. Give it lots of toys to play with. by the way no dog or cat can catch a healthy bird. That is why there are hunters they keep the sick and old controled.

Outside dogs get bored easily, as dogs are pack animals and need companionship to keep them occupied.
Is there a reason why he is relegated to live an outside side, by himself?
As for the birds, get a jingle bell (most craft stores sell them) and tie this to his collar. It won't stop him from chasing the birds, but it may help the birds - they will be able to hear him coming and can hopefully escape before he gets to them.
As for tieing the birds or beating him with this, I'm glad she won't do that, as it will not solve the situation. All it will do is make him afraid of dead birds, not stop chasing the live ones.

As long as he continues to live outside he will continue killing birds. Cats kill birds with bells on their collars all the time. Why should it stop a dog? Being on a chain might make it harder to kill birds but it won't stop him unless the chain is cruelly short.
The only real way to stop him from killing birds is to make a house dog out of him and never let him be outside unsupervised.

gosh, people are really mean answering this question!!
well, that is what dogs do.. and cats... like, my friend's cat will kill birds and mice and stuff and bring them to him like a present, so the dog thinks he's being a good dog.
i think the only way you can get an animal to stop doing something is by negative reinforcement (is that right?). like, when our dog barks at a car, we spray her with water, and she stops and knows it's bad. so.. whenever you see the dog chasing a bird, you need to like.. spray it with water or do something so he knows that what he's doing is naughty.
or.. lol.. catch a bird and introduce them. that's what i do with our dog when she chases the stray cats around our house.
the only other thing i can think of is use one of those shock collar chainless things.. so he can only go so far from the house, so he's still outside and not on a chain. and keep all the birdfeeders and birdbaths and stuff outside his "area". lol.
other than that... idk??

I honestly have the right undertaking. Neighbours canine killed my duck. I honestly have reported the canine to the two the SPCA cruelty branch, and the police. This comparable canine killed a traveling small canine final summer season. Vet inspired me to make a report, this animal must be controled or destroyed. I agree which you ought to deliver a invoice to canine proprietor. additionally, get the youngster who witnessed this, write out a report, date, information of what he witnessed. i admire the electrical powered fence theory, yet at what cost? I agree which you have the perfect to maintain pets on your materials with out threat of attack. Do you have a canine your self? my own canine are loose daily to guard the the rest flock. Animal intuition must be to chase, yet killing is a some distance diverse difficulty. whilst they have tasted blood, it quite is perplexing to stop. stable success, do no longer provide up on chickens.

cats do this all the time and no one complains, why is it so weird that the dog does it. he wants praise that's why he brings them to her if she is grossed out then maybe she shouldn't have got an outdoor dog.
