i just got a 8 week old pitbull puppy about 5 days ago, at first all he would do was pee on the floor and i figred he knew not to go on the floor but peed because he couldn't controll his bladder....but now he is pooping on the floor in the past 2 days, he started pooping on the floor he will stop if someone sees him and yells at him or grabs him while he is doing it, but he still doesn't know not to do it in the house.....it's like he isn't even learning at all, we reward him with a treat and luvins when he does go outside, and tell him no really loud when he does it in the house and immediatly put him outside....i don't know what i am doing wrong..it has been about 8 years since i have had a indoor dog and even longer since we have had to house train a puppy...in fact i never house trained a puppy ever before, i've gotten dogs before that were already house trained.....the only puppy i ever had before was a outside dog...

Get a crate and make sure puppy is in it everytime he isn't supervised. Set him up for success by immediately letting him outside when he has been let out of the crate, after eating, after napping, after playing. Be consistent. If you are consistent, you won't see another accident.

A dog can hold it's bladder approximately 1 hour for every month it is old. They can usually do about a 6-8 hour stretch at night.

Another option is to hang a bell on your back door (in conjunction with using a crate). Train the dog on command to ring the bell (links below). Once the dog is reliably ringing the bell to go out to potty, voila - he is potty trained.

I got mine at 10 weeks...she is now 4 months and she has gotten the hang of it, but still has accidents. I'd say at 6 months they should fully get it, but I wouldn't leave mine out of her crate by herself for a long period of time. At 8 weeks, your puppy is still just a baby. He can't hold it for long, maybe an hour. You need to take him out VERY frequently and tell him to go potty. I used a bell to train my girl. I hung a bell on the door and when we go out she rings it. She rings it on her own now. At 8 weeks he doesn't understand what you want him to do. Patients is key and crate training seems to be very helpful in the potty training task. When he goes in the house make sure to clean it up with a pet urine cleaner with enzymes in it. That way he doesn't smell the potty on the floor and go there again. Don't let him watch you clean it up either. Good luck!

If your consistent with your training it will take 2-3 weeks...but be warned accidents do happen. The accidents will stop a little over a month..give it time its only a 8 week old puppy. They will learn in the meantime watch him closely. take him out after playing with him, or 20-30 minutes after the puppy eats or drinks

Remember: It's a puppy, there still babies. Take him to go out ten to fifteen minutes after eating and once an hour otherwise. Keep up the praise when he goes outside, but don't punish for accidents, just clean them up well. Confine him to a smooth surface if you are worried about ruined carpet. Try crate training.

You can't really expect an 8 week old pup to be fully potty trained. You need to be very consistent. Take him out every half hour to an hour. Don't give him the chance to pee on your floor. If you can't literally be watching him at this point he needs to be in his crate or doggy safe area. Half of potty training is eliminating his chance to make mistakes.
