Right, I'm sick of this... just because there is a website that allows people to advertise a litter of puppies for sale does not immediately mean that the people advertising are "backyard breeders/puppy mills/bad people" If anybody would like to comment please do some research first, epupz is a well established website which allows advertising only, you cannot "buy" a puppy off it, you contact people who have litters for sale through it. The website clearly states that it does not endorse nor knowingly support any kind of farming/illegal practices and it actively encourages you to visit a litter and the breeder in the home, it also states that should you find anything untoward with any litter/breeder that you should contact epupz immediately so they can take action. As for those who ask for money before 'sending' a puppy, NEVER send money to anyone, ever, no matter what they are promising, if you cant be sure its not a scam, then dont flippin well bother! I cant believe people are still taken in by these conmen!
Before you all crucify me, I have NOT advertised any litters on any websies nor have I ever bred any of my dogs.. I DID however buy my Kennel Club registered Pug from a reputable breeder I found thanks to epupz.co.uk, I had to pay a subscription to join the website, I followed all the rules and the breeder and I have a great communication still, even after I purchased my dog from him... so all you people out there who instantly think that ALL people who advertise on the internet are fraudsters and puppy farmers, get off your soapboxes and give it a rest. In my opinion as long as you do your research, make all the right choices and ask the right people the right questions (and pay the small fee!) epupz is as good a place to find a pup as any especially as you will find that there are also those on there who are also advertising on the Kennel Club register!

Epupz is just another place to advertise and why not. There are some reputable breeders on there. There is caution though, no matter how you get the info for a breeder, you must go and see the breeder before you purchase the dog and see it with his/her litter mates, and the mother must be there as well, see what her temperament is like, although she could be little protective of her brood. The father may not be there as the breeder could of used him from some where else in the country. If at all you are not happy with the breeder leave well alone.

I bought a puppy just over 2 weeks ago from a breeder I found on Epupz.

After contacting the breeder, who was not a puppy farmer, I was sent several e-mails including a link to their web site, and videos on a my space page.

I spoke to the breeder at length, and visited their home twice ( a 4 hour return journey) before bringing the puppy home. I met the mother and aunt of the puppy, and shown pictures and pedigree of the father. I also met a puppy they had previously sold, who was being looked after while the family went on holiday.

All documentation was shown to me, all the puppies were eye tested, vet checked, microchipped - if required. In fact Ican think of nothing that was missed out, in fact the breeder called me 2 days ago to see how things were going.

Although I obviously cannot say that all breeders are as reputable as the one I chose, in my experience, it was the perfect site to use.

I would also like to add, that before I bought a pedigree puppy, I had visited a well known rescue centre, who although my husband and I work from home, as we have a child under the age of eight would not let us home one of their dogs, also as we were at the centre a school teacher and her husband were arguing with staff as they wanted another dog, but the staff said that even someone with 12 weeks holiday a year, working 9 - 3 wasn't at home long enough. So after those hurdles I decided to buy previously.

Please research the breed you would like throughly, there are several sites available with questionaires as to what you would like in a dog, e.g. the amount of exercise you are able to give, what size garden you have etc. We also made a point of stopping people who were walking a dog of the same breed, and asking them about the personalities of the animal.

It is never a good idea to buy a puppy on the internet. You need to be able to see the parents to know you are getting a quality dog. Try the Toy Poodle Club for recommendations on a good, quality breeder who doesn't sell her puppies online.

Don't you think that if they are responsible breeders, they have puppy buyer waiting list instead of selling puppies online? Also, I'm sure you want see the puppies before you choose the right one and take him/her home. I hope you can find one at your local shelters. There are way too many abandoned pets in the shelters which they need good loving homes. Good luck!
ADD: Good breeders do not advertise online. As I said before, they have a puppy buyer list. Those who are not good breeders usually advertise online.

I found my Chines crested via e-pupz, which is just a listing service for breeders, it is not 'buying on line'! My boy is wonderful, happy, healthy, generally bonkers! I spoke to the breeder who told me about a show, so I went and met her there even before going to her at home to see him. Her dogs are fantastic, as is mine, we keep in touch and she looked after him when we went on holiday - no charge. We are thinking of having another pup in about 18 months, I will be going back to her!

If you subscribe you can get the full contact details and speak to the breeder, ask all your questions - I would steer clear of those that breed various different types of dogs.

Anywhere that will sell you a puppy online is a puppy mill or a back yard breeder. NEver ever for any reason buy a dog if you cannot see for yourself the conditions that the puppy is coming from and meet at least the mother dog.
