..for someone who lives in a high rise apartment. Especially a breed which can survive in the Indian climate which is most of the times hot and humid. Should it be a male or a female?

I had considered a pug because it has that "no hair" advantage. But does it bark that loud?

well i already have a Lhasa Apso and i am tired of managing her tresses. I haven't seen a pug closely but i guess it doesn't have hairs like the apso.

a good website to check out is http://dogbreedinfo.com/searchcategories.htm here you can research breeds by categories, like which breeds are better suited for apartment life, breeds that don't shed/shed little, lap dogs, breeds with low exercise demands, etc. etc. etc. its a great site to browse through to help you decide which breed is best suited for you and your lifestyle.
make sure to keep in mind how much you will be able to exercise your pet, and how long he/she will be alone during the day. some breeds are require more exercise and attention than others, and will become destructive when alone for too long or bored.

if you live in a flat, you can also consider getting a "pet-a-potty". its sort of like a large litterbox for dogs, but is filled with grass, sod or synthetic. this is good for when your dog is alone, or if you can't take him outside for some reason. this is not a substitute for actually taking your dog outdoors, but more for emergencies and convenience.

choosing male or female also depends on the breed..for example i have a whippet boy and a vizsla girl, which was totally planned for after doing lots of research. for whippets, the males are more affectionate and somewhat "needy", while the females are more independent and strong willed..and for vizslas, females are more affectionate and mellow (mellowER than males anyway..still way active!) while the males are stronger and have even more energy. neither of those would be good choices in your situation however because whippets, although are good apt dogs, are really sensitive to extreme cold or hot weather, and vizslas are just way to energetic and active for apt life. just make sure to do lots of research, and check out that site i recommended. there are lots of helpful information there! good luck and have fun!

Lord Tweedmouth in the very early 1800's developed the Golden Retriever on his estate in Scotland. His goal was to develop a dog who not only excelled in retrieving any water fowl shot down by a hunter but to also have a good companion dog on the hunt and in the home one who was also very loyal and kind while not on the hunt. also one who had exceptional intelligence. It was not known to Lord Tweedmouth until after he started his venture exactly how exceptional a swimmer the Golden would turn out to be. With it's thick tail being used as a rudder the Golden soon was to be looked upon as a formidable hunting dog and companion dog. The Golden of today can and does still have all the wonderful attributes that Lord Tweedmouth had hoped for and more. Todays Golden can now also be a seeing eye dog, a rescue dog, A therapy dog and still be a companion dog. today's Golden can and is still being used as a hunters companion all over the world. Not any more so in any one place, although you will see that many people want one for being just a companion dog over their hunting skills. Nor are there English Golden's or American Goldens. Nor does any other countries Golden's excell in anything over anothers either. They are all Golden Retrievers. One breed all of them no matter what country you find them in. What one does with their Golden's it the only differences! ok The differences is in the look of the Golden not the breed.

Pugs should not be in hot climates at all. They can tolerate a SHORT walk in the heat and thats it. And even though they have short hair they shed ALOT! I have a pug and he is a very heavy shedder like all pugs are. In your situation i would sugest a boston terrier. They are ok in heat (in moderation) and they do not shed alot at all. Hope I helped some.

I dont think male or female really matters, choose the one that is best for you. I suggest you do some research on which dog breeds tolerate heat well. Obviously, because you live in an apartment you are going to need to look into smaller dogs with short hair.

If you live in a high rise, then I would go with a small breed of dog. Which breed to get, really depends on the lifestyle you lead. Ask yourself questions like....Am I always gone from home a lot? Does this particular breed of dog require LOTS of daily exercise? Can I accommodate this breed and give it the exercise it needs? If you have children....... Is this breed, good with small children? Doing your research is a must in finding the right breed of dog for your lifestyle.

First you need to tell us more of the lifestyle. Some dogs need excercise. You really need to do some research. I have no idea what you mean about a pupg being a no hair dog. they have short hair and sehd like crazy.
As far as sex that doesn't really matter. I have and have had both. The best thing is whatever you choose have it fixed.

I live in Tennessee so i cant really know what its like there but i know growing up i always had Boston terrors and there great pets. they love to play, they don't get big, and they love there owners. Ive had males and females and i personally would go with a female but that's your preference. I would love to have a miniature Maltese but with all there hair i don't think it would be good in the heat. but i hope i helped out a little.

Short haired chihuahua. They can get all the exercise they need indoors and they love the heat. Their small bodies and big ears make it easier to disperse excess heat, too. They make great watch dogs (great hearing). Dealing with a female in heat is messy and gross so get either a male or a female if you get them neutered or spayed.

I would think that any squash-faced dog breeds would NOT do well in the heat.

i live in a high rise appartment and i own a german shepherd. i do think they are the best, some ignorant people will tell you otherwise but, unless you've owned one you will never know the true pleasures of owning one. they are great in apartments, but only if you can offer them loads of excersise.
they are great with kids and are very smart and protective. oh and very trainable.
if your looking for a smaller dog, staffies are great
i prefere male dogs but its really what YOU like best.
to be honest i think that any dog is a good dog as long as you train it well
