Dogs - November 2007

Long story short - I volunteer for an internet watch group that locates possible online child predators who are looking for sex & other illegal activities with minors. Gross. Anyway, there is this one guy who I've been communicating with who is clearly a pedophile. Anyway, on his myspace profile he has 4 dogs. They all look really healthy and well taken care of and he even told me about how they are his babies and stuff. Here is my question, this guy has been reported due to his illegal online activities. I am a HUGE dog & cat person and I feel really sad and anxious about this not because I'm worried about this guy, but about his dogs. Where will they go? Who will take care of them if he is arrested? I am seriously stressed about this...

Ok, My dog just had TPO for his Hip Dysplasia. He's 7 months old and i'm picking him up from the vet tomorrow.
It's so unfair that he has to go through this sort of thing at this stage of his life. At this point he can't move without assistance, and what the worst part about it is, he must be in such discomfort and pain, and in 6 weeks time after he's up and running again, we're gonna get his other hip done which is really slack to him!!!
Anyway, what i was wondering is if there are any people out there who have had this or a hip replacement or anything simliar and how you went about it and what the healing process was like, how long it took and how your dog felt.

I see someone post on CraigsList about a Dog they have and that they werent sure what it was a Black Mouth Cur Mix or a Pitbull Mix... I think it's a Pitbull mix because I have a Yellow Cur. What do you think?

Since Dogs listens to commands in the language of the owner, should it not be natural to presume that their barking is also an attempt to speak the same language. If yes, than my Dog barks in Queen's English and my neighbor's dog barks in Swahili, however, they understand each other perfectly well. Any explanation ?

I have a year old APBT who has skin issues. He just got his 2nd allergy shot a couple of weeks ago. It didn't help much this time, just took a lot of the redness out of his skin but did not stop or even curb his itching. The vet suggested putting him on a flea preventative for a month b/c if he is having fleas issues it can compound his itching issues. If I am going to see improvement after this treatment, how long? He is full of bites of some sort. you can see the bumps under his fur and around his privates in the really thin fur and he just itches and itches and itches.

I am only 14, i really wanted a dog, now my parents have finally let me, we have had a breeder set a dog aside. Now, my parents own hotels so they are always busy. And probably wont be at home 24/7. And i have school. Is it okay if the puppy is left alone during the day, for 8 hours? i have a mother boxer who just had puppies and since she had puppies she goes to the rest room inside which is nasty i take her out side walk her around and play with her for a lil but evry time she comes inside she will use the rest room and now it smells like dog pee how do i get that smell out of the house i cant use any thing strong bc i got asthma?

My Boxer is 6, and we started feeding him Authority Harvest Baked about a year ago, and he's gained a lot of weight. So I need to know a good weight control dog food to put him on. And also we have a Boston Terrier that's not over weight, but we feed them the same food so would it be ok for her to eat the weight control too? Because I really don't want to buy two different kinds of food, and they eat out of each other's bowls.

I always thought doggy daycare would be too expensive but..saw an ad in the newspaper for 1 and checked out the website, it looks so cute, has tunnels and agility for the dogs to play on... it's $29 for 6 or more hours. The dogs get temperment tested first and theres a webcam you can check up on them, and they have large and small sections, grooming, and holistic care. Is that a good/reasonable price? do you think they need doggy daycare? I walk my puppies 2 hours a day and on weekends i dont work so i bring them to parks and dogparks. They arent really alone often I work at home some days though and take care of my elderly mom so dont pay attention to them. I thought either doggy daycare or agility training classes(which are $150 once a week for 6wks). Theyre Jack russell/beagle and border collie/lab. thanks all.

well...we bought puppy the woman told us he was healthy right...well he wasnt he had parasites then one day we took him to the doctor cause he just didnt want to run walk anything he was throwing up so we took him to the vet....she said "i know that smell it parva it has a very distinguish smell'....later on she said we have to put him to sleep.........we tried to contact her she disconnected her phone we went to the humane society since parva spreads fast and it already came infected if one puppy has all puppy have it were taking the lady to court....anyways how do you get over it real fast i only had they puppy for 2 days and i cried histerically i couldnt stop how do i get over it..................help???

the question is:how do i get over the loss over my puppy

The issues have been going on now for over a year. They thought that it was puppy vaginitis, but it didn't go away after she was fixed. She is already on special food, and the infections still are occuring every 3 months or so. We go in get some drug (tried many kind) and it works for a while. She drinks a lot of water, but she is a large breed, so I am not sure. She is a Saint Bernard only a year and a half, I just want to know if something else is going on, or why it's happening. Any advice may help. Thanks

OK, it's not really the right term, I'm sure, but someone called it this in the previous question about Kimbertal Dobes.

My question is not about Kimbertal. But rather about the method of breeding whereby the breeder gives a family a ***** to raise and love and then they breed it and some sort of agreement is worked out whereby the original breeder keeps some or all of the puppies.

From my (limited) reading and hearing about this, it seems like, if done correctly, it has the potential to be a great system. (Of course it can be very bad, too.) People who want to breed get a great dog and a mentor. The breeder, if he wants to expand his bloodlines while still giving all his dogs quality of life, can do so.

I heard that it's pretty common in the Scandinavian area among the top breeders. Most breeders don't have more than one or two dogs living in their residence.
