I have a german shepherd almost 2 years old. She knows sit, come, no. The only thing is when she is distracted or doing something she thinks is better she ignores me. How do I get my dog to stop ignoring me and do what I tell her to no matter what distraction is around?

If a dog never had parvo shots as apuppy can it contact parvo later on? As in older puppy years or as a adult- If not when is it safe to let a puppy outside in a yard that may have had a previous parvo outbreak. Not sure if this puppy has had any shots? Thanks

Hey guys,
Another quick question: My family adopted a 3 1/2 year old Border Collie from a rescue, and it's obvious that she has been through a lot. She's been hit by at least one car (possibly two), shot in the leg, neglected in a kennel and (from what we can see) abused in general.

My question is regarding her back right leg. She favors it and usually fails to catch herself with it when she jumps in the air. She has seen a vet about this and they basically had absolutely no idea what the problem is. This may or may not be the leg she was shot in.

I'm wondering if there is anything we can do to help her strengthen this leg. I've heard aqua therapy helps out a lot, and one of the vets who examined her front leg (broken from the impact of the first car, then put into a splint by her cheap and idiot previous owners) recorded that she could really benefit from swimming.

Here's the catch: She is absolutely terrified of water. I don't think she's every actually been IN a pond.

My friend buys this special food for her dog and says that purina and all the other brand name foods are not good for the dog, and thats why they are so cheap but I think they are inexpensive because they have more of the market and she is getting gypped buying special food called Nature's Recipe and Natural Choice which has lamb and rice.

What is really the scoop on dog food? I see some food at the Dollar Store for 5 bucks for 30 lbs also, so maybe that is junk but what about Purina and other top brands? Thanks

I want to buy a golden retriever puppy but I heard that it is too old by the time i get it. It is about 13 weeks or so and by the time I can buy it, it will be about 4months (16 weeks) or so. Is 4 month puppy too old to buy? I heard it is harder to train a older puppy because they are old enough to know the permanant owner. I heard 8 weeks around is the perfect time to buy it. What should I do?!?!

For whatever reason, I go from long periods of "having no job" to "having a million job offers" quite frequently (when I'm out a job, that is). Within the same day, I got two different job offers. I need some advice and opinions on which one of these I should stick with.

JOB #1: Kennel
The first job is a kennel.

Pros-
-No evening hours
-People are friendly
-VERY laid back working place. (Get to wear jeans!!!)

Cons-
-Must work holidays
-VERY cold in the winter (most of the work is outdoors)
-Probable make min. wage ($7.65)

JOB #2: PetCo (Groomer Assistant and Dog Trainer)
Pros-
-Get experience with grooming and training.
-Paid on commission (pro or con, depending on how you look at it).
-Get paid vacation! (As a part-timer!!!)
-Pet store
-Have holidays off

Cons-
-Not as laid back as kennel.

Distance is NOT a problem for either.

I would really value and appreciate other people's opinions on this. And any experiences you may have with either setting would be fantastic!

After receiving lots of thumbs down in the last few days for stating that dogs are carnivores I was interested in other people's opinions on the matter.
Please write whether you think dogs are carnivores or omnivores and your reasons for thinking this. NO THUMBS please this is purely people's opinions not a contest of wills.

I'll start - I believe that dogs are carnivores based on their physiology and genetic makeup. The dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is a domestic subspecies of the wolf, a mammal of the Canidae family of the order Carnivora. I feel that just because they can (and do) eat vegetable matter does not mean this should be part of an appropriate diet for dogs.

Ive been thinking for a while now, and i think its final. People need to know more about puppy mills. My friend got a puppy from Petland about a month ago. I was extremly angry, but I didnt say anything to her. Also, another of my friends bought a puppy from a lady that sold them in the back of her car, but gave the puppy to her grandma. Now she said that they are going to get another puppy from the same lady for themself. I told her about those dogs in a shelter/rescue group i got my dog, and petfinder, but she didnt seem like she would check. It makes me furious when people buy puppies from petstore (or backyard breeders) and help support the suffering of puppy mill dogs. In my presentation, I'm hoping my school will let me presentit. Its mostly about puppy mills, and how bad they really are and not to support them. I also included about adopting dogs. Whats some other things I should add? Also, do you think this is a good idea, to educate the school, hoping they past the message on?

I have a one year old black lab named Sadie. She doesn't behave. I am only 13 and if I don't teach her to behave my dad will teach her the hard way. Trust me you don't want to know what the hard way is. Well, does anyone got any ideas how to actually train her?

My aunt and I were watching a dog show on Animal Planet last night and she was wondering if that ever happened to a judge that's checking the dogs mouth and coat. I told her that I doubt that it ever did, but that I would post the question to see if anyone has heard of such a thing.

I took my boy to the vet earlier because he was feeling crummy the last few days but no real "sympotoms" $360 later they gave him penicillin, an antinausea injection, sent me home with amoxicillin, and metronidazole, and some subcu fluids... I've given hundreds of shots and given subcu fluids several times, but he has a lump on his back? I've never seen this from fluids before, only certain types of shots... what should I be doing? I would call the vet but they're closed now and I hate to wait until tomorrow because he's dehydrated and needs them. I know lots of medical junk about dogs but this one is escaping me!!! Any vet techs would SERIOUSLY be appreciated right now.

ok i have a beagle, shes 4 and she eats my other labs poop. We feed her a good amount of food in the morning and at night so shes not going hungry. I cant go around all day picking it up or putting stuff on it to make it taste bad (wow). And she knows I dont like her doing it because when i start walking towards her she runs away.
I no that buying stuff is a last resort but is there anything else i could do to make her stop? Its disgusting!
