I took a list of names from the country my dog is from and picked from them. Since my dog is a chihuahua I went through mexican names until I decided finally on one. It's fun, and it insures you have a cute name for your dog.

My two dogs i have now just got thier names they just fit. (Murphy & Josh).
But my old dog Nelson (who passed away in 2002 may god rest his soul) has a funny stroy to how he got his name. My parents (he was found before i was born but he was always by my side as i grew up) Well my parents have thier own lawn & garden company and such and when my dad was checking on a sprinkler system he noticed a dog jumping around through the sprinklers. He thought the dog must have been owned by someone so he went on with his days work. Well a day or two later he went back to that spot and talked with some of his guys who had been working there for the past few days also. He saw the dog once more romping through the sprinklers and found out he had been there for a good couple of days. His guys had even been feeding them parts of thier lunches. My dad fell in love with the dog and he was very friendly so he called my mother (a fellow animal adorer!) They looked every were for about a month because they did not know if someone had lost the sweet dog. No one ever went looking for him. So my parents kept him and named him after the sprinkler system. Nelson.
THE END! ;) LOL
Good Luck
xx

P.s i think the name Babe for a Chi is a super name!

A dogs names says everything about it's owner. I've known a Rott named satan who acted like satan. I've known positive named pets who acted far better. I think the name should represent everything you are and what you want others to know about you. I've been to Paris, France and picked up a pet (already named) while there. Just recently I've gotten another one in the states and named him Pierre. Some say 2 syllable names are best.

I copied this from one of my other answers. This is how our dogs got their names

Our Bichons................
Buttons because he has button eyes.
Daisy she is sweet as a flower.
Cheerio always chased his tail.
Corky Is a goofy clumbsy little dog, Now she is just goofy.

Our Poms...............
Kitty Dog, her real name is Angel, But the oldest grandson said she looked more like a kitty then a dog. So he started calling her Kitty Dog and the name stuck. She comes by both names.

Fancy and Foxy were prissy little pups and think they are queen and still do.
Teddy looked like a little bear.
Peppi was already named

Our Shih Tzu's.................
Lucy the name just fit her
Felix , hubby named him.

You will just have to wait and see how your pup acts, then pick out a good name for him or her.

Snickers: he's a shih tzu and as a puppy he would make a funny snorting nose when he played that sounded like he was snickering at us.

Daisy: as a pup got in to the backyard and dug up my mom's daisy flowerbed and my mom thought she was just too cute with muddy paws and daisy petals stuck to her fur to be mad at. So she got stuck with the name Daisy.

Chelsea: We tried and tried to think of a name and everything we thought of someone didnt like, so my husband got frustrated and looked at her and just started calling out random names and when he said "Chelsea" she barked and grabbed a toy wanting to play, so, she picked it.

Mitzie: we got her from a shelter and in the shelter he name was Daisy, and we couldnt very well have 2 Daisys and when we said something to the shelter, a woman there, said "I had a dog that looked just like her named Mitzie" and my mom liked the name.

ADDED: Daisy must be a common name for bichons lol!

I always waited a couple days to watch the personality. One dog I have is Chevy as he was almost born in the truck taking mom to vets, Kasey (K.C.) was Kali's cutie (kali is mom) Rotti 'cause even though mom and dad are red he has exact colors and markings as a rotti, had a cat many years ago was pure white except tiny black dot on forehead..called her Blacky. Most of my pets names though came from personality or some silly thing they did.

Our black lab had to be put to sleep last year right before Christmas, and we got our puppy the day after Christmas. I named her a name that was close to our other dogs nickname. As it turns out, her name is Dottie(like Dorothy) and she's a dog like Toto in the Wizard of Oz

We named our Dog NEMO after the film which we thought appropriate for a rottie as it spells OMEN backwards, Our kitten was named WOODCRAFT after being found in the woodcraft department at a joiners depot. See whats going on around you at the time of receiving your pup and you'll pick a name quite easily without even trying. Best of luck.

You can google for dog names and it will give you the top 10 or whatever....sometimes you have to get them first and see what names fits them. I had a name picked out for my Maltese but when I got her and half way home...I changed it....her names fits her perfectly.

Something always pops into my head the first time I see a new puppy or dog. I can't explain it. Our current pooches are Cow and Tink (short for Tinkerbell). Past names are Ralph, Hershey, Maggie, Hilda, Brutus, and Poco.
