Ok so my 3 year old pitbull terrior jack has a new friend apparently. I just got home from work and when I opened the back door to let him in for the night another dog i think it's a german sherpard pops up behind him and scares the crap out of me! This german shepard is a boy, and him and Jack seemed to be getting along fine...i've been at work all day and so i dont know how much time theyve spent together already...any ways the new dog the german shepard looks like an adult kinda and i thought that with boy dogs u couldnt just put them together because of the territorial issue so why are they not fighting? And also i caught the shepard trying to have sex with jack from the back like what guy dogs do to the *****..and Jack acted like he didn't even mind..Is there such a thing as a gay dog? Are these two going to have homosexual territorial problems later on? Im being 100% serious with my question..any help or advice etc is greatly appreciated..

thank u confused dog owner

My dog is I think around 13 years old, and she has abdominal cancer. She just started whimpering from inside her doghouse. She slips and falls over all the time and ends up peeing all over herself. She has what seem to be seizures and almost goes into a coma...but she is still sort of playful and eats all of her food and drinks her water and everything. I called my brother who is technically her owner and said that I think its about time we let her go but he doesn't want to yet. Is it time to say goodbye?

so this lady was giving away a free dachshund the other day on craigslist...sad i recently lost my boxer i figured i would get another pal to hang around with. anyway, i think this little guy was abused or something because everytime i approach him he runs into his kennel or away from me. its kind of depressing me because i want him to cuddle with me (he does every now and then) and come to me when i call him. ahhhhh! ive tried looking up things online but i dont know what to do because i havent found quite the right thing. when he does come to me he sometimes comes right up into my lap and lays down, other times he lays on the other couch and wont listen to me when i call him. helpppppppp!

Hello,
I have a 5 1/2 month old olde english bulldog and I am wondering if there is anyway to induce vomiting without hurting him? I ask only because he has a history of eating things (like full pairs of underwear without chewing them or anything) and then throwing up. Now it's been awhile since this happened because we have puppy proofed our house as much as possible but last night I noticed that his belly was harder then normal and REALLY engorged. He also was whining a little bit at random times but I can't seem to figure out why. Now tonight his belly is twice the size, very big so I am wondering if perhaps he found something and ate it and it is stuck in his belly?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated greatly!

I have found a dog that I would like to adopt on the Adopt-A-Pet website that is run in conjunction with the RSPCA. I was wondering if anybody would know the cost of adopting a dog through them and what the process is.

I had a litter of pups that I gave away. They were so cute and popular that I wanted to do it again, but this time re-coup some of the money I spent on that one and this one. Also it gives my son more experience in what he is interested in becoming, a Veteranarian. I have heard the term "backyard breeder". Definately not in that crowd! May I know what you think about it?

Thanks to all of you for answering my question so promptly. I acknowledge that I did the wrong thing, but will someone not judge me and answer the question. Sure, I could have sold them all and not asked the question. It's not about money, I want to do the right thing.

Is it just my experience with the trainers I've dealt with, or has there been a shift in training methods in the last 10-15 years?

I remember when I was training dogs in 4-H around 10-15 years ago, treats and baiting were a huge "no-no". We used only praise. And it was just unquestioned that we used choke-chains for obedience, show-leads for showmanship (similar to confirmation in execution; except the handler is being judged, not the conformation of the dog), and flat-collar for agility.

Now, every single trainer I know of uses either treats or clickers. And it seems almost nobody uses choke-chains anymore.

Is it just the trainers I've happen to come across, or has there really been a big switch?

If there has been a shift, what is your opinion of the change in training method trends?

I recently adopted a dog from the humane society that was pregnant. I took her into to have her spayed since I mainly do agility/obedience and she is a mutt. Her stomach started to become larger and larger and I suspected pyometra. The vet told me it may put her in danger to abort the pups (my original plan) since she was so far along. This was about a 10 days ago and my vet told me she was about 50 days along. Today is her 60th day (give or take) of gestation. She has been acting very normal until today. She hasn't eaten anything all day and vomited 3 times this morning. I've been regularly taking her temp. and it has been between 99.9 - 99.5 for the past week or so. I just took it and it was 98.9. She has slept in her whelping box almost all day and has started pawing around a bit. The pups are wiggling quite a bit in her belly, which is actually normal. Can anyone help me? I've delivered horses and other livestock before but this is my first time with pups!

I have 3 dogs. 2 of them are half chihuahua half rat terrier and the other is a terrier mix (we got him from the pound so we don't know what he is). Both of our males (one being the chihuahua rat and the other being the terrier mix) are a little over weight, but not obese. How can I get them to lose weight? It's hard monitoring their food because we don't know how much they are eating. Our terrier mix is 10 years old and he has lost about 3 pounds, but I think that it's because he gets chased away by our food agressive female and doesn't want to fight back. Please help!! I want them to be healthy!

I have 3 dogs, 2 males and 1 female, they have all been "fixed" but they all still hump eachothers backs and my 2 male dogs continue to lift their legs on my artificial christmas tree every year. I thought once they were neutered that this would stop but it didnt change them at all! Help! How can I get them to stop behaving this way??

Ok I have a female shepard who I am thinking about breading with another shepard who is registered. Both grandpartnts of my female were registered but the people I got my female from never got the parents registered so I know that I cant sell them as registered puppies but I would like some input of a price range so I can see if its worth it from a financial standpoint.

My new 1 yr old pug won't let me put eye drops in his eye for the life of me! He has an ulcer in his eye and needs these drops 2x a day for 2 weeks. I've tried the gentle approach with treats and tried coming from behind his head, no good. Any suggestions?
