I was walking my dogs last night and they kept stopping to lick the ice on the road and my boyfriend and I were wondering where or not a dog could get their tongue stuck on ice, or a frozen pole or what not like humans can? Cause we have a metal dog run out back that my one dog licks all the time..i dunno why haha...but now im wondering whether im gonna have to keep an eye out to make sure he's not stuck?? I know it's s dumb questions but I don't know the answer....

I took my 10 week old pitbull in about 5 hours ago and he got his first shots. The area where they put the shots is very swollen and it seems to be painful if it is touched or if he rolls over on it. Is this an allergy or something i need to be worried about?

I have a year old pure bred German Shephard Dog. In the last three days his appetite has fallen off considerably. This morning I was awoken by him vomitting next to my bed. After that, he appeared to be fine. He did not eat breakfast, played as normal all day (including an hour at the dog park), and ate most of his dinner (needed a little coaxing). About 2 hours after dinner he appeared to dry heave. Nothing came out.

I should say that in the last month, he has been diagnosed with Pano and was on meds for that. The day I brought him home from that vet visit, he almost bloated himself. I was able to catch it before it flipped and got him to the vet to pump his stomach. He has been 'back to his normal self' since. No other signs of trouble, no diaherra, no excessive water consumption, no lethargic state.

I don't know if its me being over protective or a real health problem. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

I got three pets already, but now I want another one.
I got one gerbil, one dog and one fish.
But now I badly want another pet!

That would be a german shepard dog.
I really want it badly.
So I ask my dad and mom if I can have one.

They say "No, your not going to get another pet!"
Anything I can try to do to get my mom and dad in the thinking about it thing?

Chirstmas is coming up, so my dad or mom might get me one.

My lab has a bad habit of escaping when the frontdoor is opened. I worry that she's going to get run over. She's attracted to squirrels and if she sees one she bolts! Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The vet told me to keep her confined for the next 7-10 days so that she will heal properly, but she's so full of energy that it's killing her to be cooped up all the time. I take her out on her leash to do her business, and when I do, she pulls on her leash and wants to play. I'm just worried that she'll hurt herself. Plus she whines constantly in her crate. So I got the idea to give her benadryl to make her drowsy so that she won't mind being in her crate so much. My vet has told me to give my other dog benadryl for his itchy skin (they are both pugs). So I know benadryl is not harmful to dogs. I'm just wondering if it's safe to give it to them post-surgery.

I live in a apartment in NYC and own a cocker spaniel and a yorky/maltese mix. When winter comes and the snow starts to come what's a way to get my dogs to exercise without going outside? I have ideas like using a treadmill for them but I don't own one. They're to small to pull me in the snow if I put on my skies. What are some good ideas?

Well if you love animals, would you say that killing innocent dogs is animal cruetly and why would people sell dog meat anyways? Do you want to eat dogs?

I have a hybrid who's bout 155 pounds. I have a license and therefore certain requirements have to be met. In order to have her outside at all I am required by law to have her in this pen that you would think we built for King Kong. I do this...however...... I have to clean the pen regularly and sometimes she insists on being outside. I have gotten in a habit of chaining her with a tow chain, to the outside of the pen while I clean it out. She's only there for say, half an hour..and of course I am right there. BUT. I just saw this question posted. Is it "true your dog can suffer a collapsed trachea from tugging on a chain?"
I've never heard this in all my years of owning and rescuing animals. Several people replied that is IS in fact true. I'm worried about chaining my Naomi while I clean her pen now. She's a 'puller.' I feel like a shmuck because I had no idea. Could she have damaged her throat? OMG I feel like an *sshole. I'm always the careful one. Should she see the vet?

Ok i live with my mom and grandparents. My mom understands, but my grandfather thinks he knows everything!! And so do many of my other family members ad friends of my grandfather that visit. I tell them"Please do not feed my dogs table food." then theyll start saying "your stupid! thats alli ever fed my dogs." and ill say "its scientifically proven that some foods are harmful and can even kill them, such as onions." then theyll say "well there wrong they do that just to make money and your stupid." they say stuff like that all the time. it hurts my feelings first of all, but im more worried about my dogs. i try to stay with them at all times, but sometimes i have to leave for just a sec.....not far like in another room and i come back and my dogs eating something they gave them. then ill say"i told you not to feed them! please dont do that! what if they get sick!?" then they'll say "they wont get sick...." blah blah (and those are the nice ways to put it! they cuss most of

I know they have an elongated soft palate but at least once a week it sounds like she could be choking. Is there some way I can help her when she's gasping for air? My vet said she doesn't need surgery.

She told me that she weants a BEAGLE, but I am trying to talk her out of it because she has a small yard, is in i pretty small house, and likes to spend most of her freetime inside. Is there some kind of a lapdog who might be relatively happy to sit and snuggle with her for most of the day?

Hi I am so sick of seeing all this animal abuse everywhere I look. It breaks my heart seeing what animals go through. I cry every single time I see a stray animal. How many of you people think people who kill their animals should get the death penalty?

Also for everyone out there that think pit bulls are bad or scary dogs need a reality check! If a dog lashes out on ANYONE or ANYTHING it is because of the OWNER!!!! Any dog can be a GREAT dog with basic training and proper socialization, so if a dog hurts or kills a person or another animal the blame should be put on the Owners!

I pray for all the animals alone out there I wish I could save them all.

For all you animal abusers out there, your time will come! A person must be pretty pathetic to have to take their hostility and anger out on a poor animal that only wants to love and be loved. YOU TYPE OF PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK!!!!!!
