You know what there are some people in this world that you just can't tell anything! Some people will argue up and down with you whether or not they know what they are talking about just to get a rise out of you and it is so sad. But don't let them drag you into their game, just say "Keep your opinions to yourself because they are my dogs and my dogs will live by my rules." Be very firm because they need to take you seriously. Don't argue with them because that is just feeding their ego! Just tell them flat out "Whatever you think is fine for you but MY dogs will not eat table food, end of discussion." No one has the right to tell you how to raise your dogs but you! Just don't le them walk all over you and don't argue it only makes it worse!!

I understand where your emotions are with your wifes past. However, I will disagree with you on this question for a couple simple reasons. TRUE, pit bulls are known for being uncontrollable but that is mostly the owners fault. True, pitbulls are mean to people when not socialized from a young age. The way to combat this is simple, a dog should be introduced from a young age to more than 30-100 people before it reaches 1.5 years of age, UNLESS they will be used as a pure protection dog. I don't believe anyone in the US or world needs a PURE PROTECTION dog unless they have something to hide. Pit bulls come from a rough past where they were used as fighting dogs as you stated. However, so did the English and American Bulldogs. The american version was used for litterally bringing down bulls and horses by grabbing and holding their snouts. English versions were used as fighting dogs at the same time pit bulls were. The difference is the breedign standards the two breeds have seen. English bulldogs, after the early 1900's were only bred when a calm and gentle male was bred to a calm female. They did this to make the breed no so vicious. It was also a law that was passed in England that made this happen. Now, the American Pit Bull is the complete opposite. In its history, the meanest and toughest were bred to the meanest and toughest to make the breed that exist today. There was no law in the past that made breeders choose calm or vicious so American owners kept breedign the vicious dogs. So today, you have pit bulls that have the fighting gene still in their genetics while the English bulldogs are no more docile because the fighting gene has literally been bred out. There are breeds that I do believe a special license should be acquired before being able to purchase. These are Rottweilers, Giant Schnauzers, Dobermans, ALL types of American Pit Bulls, and many of the European herders. The reason for this is because there is much more at stake and much more to learn from these breeds than there is from toy dogs, terriers, and other working breeds. These breeds, if not trained or socialized early, can become a problem. The license should revolve around a test which test the owners ability to handle their dog in a rightful and public manner as well as testing teh background and knowledge of teh breed they are purchasing. This in no way contradicts with any amendments to the constitution but instead works as an addition to national, state and city standards. They the fees could be used as "tax collections" and go right back to the city or state. Again, I am sorry to hear of your wifes past but please understand that not all dog owners raise their dogs to be vicious, unthinking or reserved.

This is a little deeper than you want to go ino, Iwould strongly suggest however that if you are a minor and living in your parents home, you need to beverycarefulof how you talk to them.
NO, they should not curse you or make you feel hurt however, elderly people are set in their ways of thinking, I am afraid that if you say these other suggested things of talking to them as if you were the head of the house you could very well anger them and they very well could take your dogs to a shelter or get rid of them and there is nothing you can do being a minor and in their home.
Also, sadly if you think because there is money left to you, you may want to find out how that money was left to you, you may find out that you can not tough that money until a certain age.
I know this stinks but you are heading for bigger issues if you want to smart off to them, you are as I said a minor and you don't just get money, if you did and your mother felt the need can take it from you unless there is a trust fund or other legal arrangment were made by your Dad.
You are right certain foods can be harmful to a dog or at least unhealthy being cooked in fatty oils. Try to ask them to only give them certain foods, like chicken meat without the bones, or plan hamburger, but ask...You get a better reponse to asking than demanding.
I am also worried about you being cursed at and the treatment they are giving you even if it is only verbable I would talk to your Mother about how this really hurts and see if she can talk to the other adults, if not maybe a teacher or other school stafe about what can you do to make them stop at the very least at the very most they can help in other ways too.
Best wishes.

Before anything I would tell them that you are not stupid and not to ever refer to you like that again. I'm afraid that no matter what you do, they will sneak food to your dogs as this is more than just wanting to feed them, they are control freaks.
Since you are the one providing the care for your dogs, you have every right to ask them to abide by your wishes.
It seems that you don't live under the best conditions there. Graduate, save your money and have a goal as to when you can move out on your own. You sound like you are the only mature, responsible one in this group. Good luck.

a friend of mine had a simular problem. He train his dog to NOT accept ANY foods without he saying a certain word. I have no idea how he trained her to do this but the dog would not touch foods in any way until that word was said. Of course others in your home be it family or friends would need to know the word as the dogs may at some point need to be taken care of by others. just tell ppl you trust and don't let it get to the ones who don't listen to your rules.

Are you old enough to move out? I would think they would just respect your wishes not to feed your dogs anything you don't want them to have but obviously they do not. Try a different approach since they are "know it alls" about dog foods and the industry, say well I do not want my dogs to get over weight or spoiled with eating to many fattening table scraps...maybe compromise allow them to give them the odd little treat but have a list of no no's like onions, chocolate ect...the odd treat will not hurt them but constantly feeding them large amounts of assorted table foods will slowly harm them with bad fats and weight gain. You live in their home so you really can't do to much..it's too bad they don't show you any respect though to your wishes...If I were you and your old enough I would try to move out.

Tell them you are ashamed that they think that doctors are trying to make money off of telling you that people food is harmful to pets - when in fact, they make no money off of that fact. Also, tell them you'll be happy to sue them once your pet dies due to their infatuation in treating and feeding YOUR animal like it was theirs, when it's not.

I feel sorry for you. Your family members are the ones who need to get a little education.
