I have a year old pure bred German Shephard Dog. In the last three days his appetite has fallen off considerably. This morning I was awoken by him vomitting next to my bed. After that, he appeared to be fine. He did not eat breakfast, played as normal all day (including an hour at the dog park), and ate most of his dinner (needed a little coaxing). About 2 hours after dinner he appeared to dry heave. Nothing came out.

I should say that in the last month, he has been diagnosed with Pano and was on meds for that. The day I brought him home from that vet visit, he almost bloated himself. I was able to catch it before it flipped and got him to the vet to pump his stomach. He has been 'back to his normal self' since. No other signs of trouble, no diaherra, no excessive water consumption, no lethargic state.

I don't know if its me being over protective or a real health problem. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

My boy use to go off his food for a day or so and then his appetite would come back. He was healthy, active and "normal" during his loss of appetite. The throwing up is a bit of a concern though. If he throws up his food after eating, I would take him to the vet. However, you said he only dry heaved so I would not worry overmuch, especially since he is "back to his normal self". Just keep an eye on him (which you obviously are) - wet, cold nose etc.

Also, coaxing him to eat is not a terrific idea as he may want you to start coaxing him to eat everyday - trust me on this, I know from personal experience......A dog will NOT starve itself.

You don't say what you feed your dog. Being 1 yr old, he/she still has a lot of puppy inside and it will try to eat a lot of things during experimentation. It could have eaten something disagreeable at the dog park. Watch to see if it tries to eat lawn grass when outside. Dogs, like people, get upset stomachs and that is one way they alleviate the problem. If the dog continues to have dry heaves, take it back to your vet as soon as possible.

Did you disinfect the area, with diluted bleach ,where puppy had been before he was diagnosed parvo. Sometimes they can infect themselves with the diease again. Was he given a a full puppy series of vaccines. Alot of dogs can pick up diseases in dog parks if their immune systems are weak. He may be bloating again. He may have eaten something that is stuck or bad for him. I would get him to a vet pretty soon if he is not feeling better in the next day or so.

Oh how sad. YES!!!!! GET HIM TO ANOTHER VET!!!! Be aggressive/persistent to the second vet. I had a sick german shepherd with those symptoms (though might not be the same problem) and my vet kept saying he would get over it and sent us on our way with an antibiotic. I was stupid to wait so long before taking him to another vet for a second opinion. It was too late. Take him today!!!! I am compassionately hoping for the best for your wonderful doggie!.

Could it be the medication he is taking for pano? Maybe it upset his gi tract and is upsetting his stomach.
I would go back to the vet for a cbc and chemistry to ensure all is well.
The vet can prescribe something for his nausea so that his appetite returns.
You seem very in tune to your pet. He is lucky he has you!
