Depends. If you used a treatment from a store, it's quite likely to have caused a reaction - although I've never heard of coughing being a reaction to such treatments. You usually see neurological symptoms, or hair loss.

It could well be a coincidence that you used the flea treatment before the coughing. Coughing can be caused by many, many things - kennel cough is the most common cause in dogs, but it could also be heart trouble, any other respiratory infection, lungworm or heartworm - oh, the list goes on and on. Take him to the vet if you're worried, because we can't tell you from here why the dog's coughing!

OMG!! Beware of the flea medications!!! My small yorkie had a very nasty reaction to Frontline! It was the third time I had given it to him He was fine the other two times. But that last time was awful!! I called my vet and the manufactures and they all told me it was completely safe, but it's NOT!!! Be careful!! If you really think that's the problem, you should wash it off!

My dog is on Revolution now... much safer!

It very well could be allergies. My dog gets allergies in the spring. A friend of ours had a puppy from her litter, and he done the same thing. When they took him to the vet, they said to give him a couple tablespoons of Robotesin DM. Now, these are big dogs, and dosages always go by weight, so if it is a small dog, give it less.

I worked with Animals all my life before my current job including a Kennel, Groomer, and Vet's office. Speaking from experience, flea prevention is safe for dogs...even puppies. be sure that you don't put it somewhere where they can lick, because it can irritate them. I doubt that anything serious will happen to your dog, but if it bothers him you might want to switch brands. The best for flea prevention is Advantage. I don't care for the ones that are supposed to be for other things too, because the prevention for fleas isnt as effective.

Hope this helps!

Oh Yes .. Most certainly it could be an allergy.

Talk to your vet, but watch him .. I wouldn't use it again in him/her.
