My new 1 yr old pug won't let me put eye drops in his eye for the life of me! He has an ulcer in his eye and needs these drops 2x a day for 2 weeks. I've tried the gentle approach with treats and tried coming from behind his head, no good. Any suggestions?

yeah, i hear you. i have to put drops and ointment in my dogs eyes and it's easier with two. but when alone, use one hand to muzzle him, hold him tight and get a drop in there. hold him tight. some times a serious verbel command helps out with charley. (i also give charley a treat after were done fussin') GL with it! and dont be afraid to ask the vet to help out with instruction....i doubt they would charge for that. mine doesnt and has even helped out on occassion with charleys meds when he has been a obstenant pig as opposed to good doggie....

sometimes our pug would require the mom holds and dad drops method. Usually, I'd have to just sit on the floor and sort of trap her with my legs, hold her head with one hand and put drops in with the other hand. It's a gymnastics trick.

Oh man - I feel sorry for you - those ulcers are heartwrenching.

My puppy needs eye drops too, and its pretty difficult, but I try to wake her up from sleeping so she's calm and then come from behind. Then give her a treat so she doesn't associate eye drops being a bad thing.
