I have a 6 yr old yellow lab and i noticed her randomly shaking twice. Yesterday she was laying on the couch and all of a sudden started to shake for about a minute or 2. She just did the same thing about 5 minutes ago. Does anyone know why she would be doing this?

My sisters best friends 1 year old son was mauled on Thanksgiving by a pitbull. I am not a huge dog lover, but I have always thought that pitbulls were misunderstood, beautiful creatures. Now I am so torn. My dad has a pit that I gave him, and she is wonderful... Do you think all pitbulls are potentially dangerous?

How does a twelve year old girl start a petsitting business? My little sister was wondering how to start a pet business to earn some money to pay for new cages for her pets. She was planning on walking pets and watching them when their owners are on vacation. If she can how much should she charge? Thanks!!!

We just got a Maltese/Shitzu mix and he has tear stains. Someone told me you can put them on a special diet that helps them not have tear stains. Is this true? Is there a product we can use when bathing him too?

When I went to get Sargent from his kennel yesterday he had a brick in his mouth. One side looked brand new (its from a fire pit we're in the process of building), but the other side was worn down quite a bit. There arent any actual pieces missing, its just worn and pitted. That and the pieces in the corner make me think he didnt eat any.

Is this normal?
Im figuring he needs stronger chew toys. Right now he has a black Kong for his main chew toy. What is tougher than that?

I'm trying to train my 7 month old rat terrier puppy to stay in my yard. But when i let him off his leash he is good until he sees people or are other neighbors dogs, or smells the other neighbors dogs poop, then he'll run over there, and it's very hard to catch him, he is very fast? What should we do? We don't want a big fence around our whole yard, and i can't afford an invisible one at the moment, plz help. I wan't him to be able to have his freedom.

I treat my dogs with a monthly topical flea and tick preventative but they have still gotten a few ticks through out the summer. I am some what worried about lyme disease. What are some symptoms of lyme disease? How soon after a tick bite will these symptoms show up?

As an aside- I'm concerned that the topical flea/tick preventatives I use are not as affective as I had hoped. My dogs are avid swimmers and get wet almost daily... does prolonged water exposure affect these products? Is there a brand that is more water resistant than others? What brand do you find works best on your dogs?

I adopted my puppy last week from a shelter and they said he was a chihuhua mix. I was looking at pictures, and I sort of think he looks like a "Chipin" which is a chihuhua and min pin. Can someone tell me what they think and if they think he will get very big? Thanks so much!

"Dogs were created to be our companions. What do you think they were created for?You are so wrong. Its people like you that abuse their animals.Thats just my opinion."

This was an answer to a ? about dogs living outdoors. I shudder when I realize there really are people out there that have NO CLUE about animals. Dogs as we know them weren't created at all, the wolf or "ancestral dog" was, and man selected genetic defects he liked and developed the different breeds we know today. Scientific proof is availiable all over the internet and in every public library.

So why is this a problem?

Well, it is generalization and lack of understanding that leads to behavior problems, which leads to owner surrenders and "dumping" as well as animal attacks that inspire BSL.

I have a female dachshund who is in heat and am wondering how long a dog stays in heat. She has been in heat two other times and got pregnant both times but do not remember how long she was in heat. Also would like to know if a dog can get pregnant if they are not in heat? A neighbors dog jumped on her and we thought that this dog had got her pregnant but it was my male dog who did the job. She was pregnant and we did not even know it. She was not in heat when the neighbors dog jumped on her. We are wanting to take my dog and have her spayed.

Hi there,

I have an older German Shepherd/Husky mix, she's 10 years old, and she's having a tough time with her back legs, has trouble getting up and down, is really stiff. I know that's normal, but when I give her things with glucosamine in them, she has a lot less trouble, she very obviously gets around much easier. Her vet even reccomended I give her some. I found this stuff, at 1800 Pet Meds, called "Joint Enhancer". Here's what it says about the product:

"1-800-PetMeds Joint Enhancer is a natural daily dietary supplement to ease joint pain and improve joint function. Active ingredients 300 mg chondroitin, 250 mg glucosamine, and 2 mg manganese improve flexibility and mobility as a part of the joint rebuilding formula. Joint Enhancer comes in a bone shaped beef & pork flavor tablet dogs love."

For the dog experts--would this be okay to give to give my dog? And if not, do you know of another product I could buy? She's young at heart but with achy hips. lol

Hi eveyone,

I just got a Shih Tzu (born on August 17, 2007) and I'm new at this; therefore, I have several questions I want to ask. I know that a good vet can answer most, if not all, of my questions but I felt I had to ask the community first, since I don't have a vet yet. Anyhow, here are the questions:

1. Feeding:
a) What is the best pet food for this breed?
b) How often do I feed it in a day?
c) What kind of treats should I give it?

2. Grooming
a) How often do I give it a bath/shower?
b) It scratches on occasions, but I search its body and found no ticks or fleas, is this normal?

3. After feeding it, I give it a 5-10 minute break -- or sometimes no time -- to digest and then I take it for a walk, is this okay?

4. Any good sites you can refer me to that specializes on Shih Tzu?

Thanks for all the answers in advance.

I have recently adopted a 2 year old female staffordshire bull terrier. She came with all her jab papers but no papers to prove her pedigree or anything to hint at her parentage.

1. Is there any way of having her tested/examined to prove her pedigree?
2. If so, would I be able get a certificate or get her registered with the kennel club as a pedigree dog?

I've had cross breeds before but never a pure breed so haven't got a clue what pedigrees are all about, and I'd like her to have one litter.
Any advice is welcomed and I live in the UK.
