i,m hand feeding 5 puppy ( love it ) how old should they be when i start feeding them dog food. sooooo cute they are all doing well they or eating 2 to 3 oz of milk evey 3 to 4 hours now and there are 3 weeks and 1 day and how to start them with the dog food

my sister is starting out in a small house and she wants to get a dog but she doesn't know what would be a good first dog to get. She grew up all around dogs and animals. She has a small yard but she likes to go on walks and she has a job from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m.

I normally feed a high quality all natural holistic dog food with no fillers but I'm wondering what the harm is in feeding a little bit of leftovers? I love to cook and always cook from scratch so I know whats going in the food. Like tonight I made chili. I put in the usual like chili beans, ground hamburger, tomato sauce and a chicken base seasoned with chili powder, cumin and garlic powder. I omitted the onion because I've heard its poisonous to dogs, and besides, I really hate onions myself. Or say when I cook chicken and have leftovers, etc. You get the point. Is this okay for my dogs, and if not, why??? Seems healthy enough to me. Its not like I feed them chocolate, junk food, or anything like that. They are a cocker spaniel and bernese mountain dog border collie mix.

Last night I was walking my 8 month old cattle dog on a route I always take when a Staffy Bull Terrier came from no where at a hundred miles an hour ready to attack both of us. I managed to pick my dog up in time (as he is only a puppy and thinks all dogs want to play with him when he meets them) but the stray dog then jumped, snapped and snarled, scratching my legs and torso determined to get to my dog.

I managed to kick and knee the dog in self defence and some teenagers came to my assistance and managed to divert the dog into another direction.

My question is, did I do the right thing, should I have just let this dog try to rip mine apart, or could I have done something else?

It is my first experience with an attack of this sort, so I am trying to get ideas of what I should do if it should happen again. I am going to start walking with a piece of wood/stick, but given the dertimination of this dog - I am not sure it will ward a determined dog off.

i have recenty got a 3 year old dog...i was told she was neutered but i am not sure...becuase she went in to heat...should a dog that is neutered got in to heat...and if she is neutered how do i tell...???

My fiances daughter was here Thursday and our puppy is a very happy and excited puppy and greets everyone by jumping on them (he is a boxer mixed) we have been working with him alot but on this particular day my fiances daughter came over and the dog was playing with her as she plays with him and jumped on her and scratched under her eye like a small dot and a small line then it also caught the inside of her lip which swelled a little the next day. Well now the mother is demanding a copy of the dogs vet records which we have no problem providing but dont want it to be used against us so told her she can see them but she cant have them and she was very irrate and threatening to sue us and have the dog taken away from us. Now I am really confused is this something that can really happen is there anything we can do to prevent her from doing anything.. Please help a very stressed family...

at our neighborhood dog park there are owners who bring their mean dogs which start fights with other dogs. i have had mine attacked 3x in the last few months. today i talked to a guy and said his dog was attacked that day and the last time he was there. when it happend to me the owner grabbed the dog and left without saying anything. i was too worried about my pup to go after her. the guy today says the same dog did the same thing to him and the owner told him that if his dog couldnt stand up for himself not to bring it to the dog park. there are about 5 regulars who bring their mean dogs, what to do about it. stop going? how to regulate this.

Well i was suppost to be getting a mini dacshund, but my mom told me her friend got her fixed. And now im really sad. Do i ask for one for my birthday, which is on christmas. I know im gunna be reciving lots o $$ for my b-day. IDk what to do, i was crying cause my mom promised me, and i ask her if i could get one, but idk if she was being dumb and at the moment said no. Yeah I have a puppy that i got almost a year ago - hes half siberian half german shepard - looks like a siberian barks like a german ---- he's just over a year old right now and we never really took the time to train him, partially because we don't really know how to. Well my mom's gotten fed up with him because he randomly runs down the block when we let him out to go to the bathroom, he's always jumping on the couch and bothering my mom, and pretty much won't listen unless you have a treat in your hand. well she's planning on getting rid of him in like a week and unless i can find a good way to train this dog on my own, im screwed. if you need more info email me
