I think they should because of the threat they pose to innocent by standers.. if you disagree maybe you should do some research.

I disagree with you 100%. I believe irresponsible idiot owners should be banned from ever owning any dogs.

ADD: Obviously, you are the one who needs educating. You are sterotyping two breeds without knowing anything about them, shame on you. I don't know about you, but I believe bigotry is wrong and does nothing but makes the person involved look like an idiot. I would love to see the research you have done to back up your ignorant statements.

I suggest you watch these videos and learn something:

What should be BANNED are irresponsible dog owners who don't socialize their dogs properly.

People should put thought into what kind of breed will work best for their situation. The bigger/stronger the dog, the more important it is that the owner needs to assure that it is well behaved.

I have a neighbor who has a yellow lab (dog with a very friendly safe reputation). The owner is tiny and this lab is HUGE. It's a shame, but she never trained the dog properly and as a result, this friendly lab jumps up on everyone and has poor manners. The little kids are afraid of her, which is truly a shame and all the fault of the OWNER.

My point is, in just about every breed, it is the responsibility of the owner to train it.

You didn't list your resources...I'd be curious to find out what "research" you suggest looking at. I'm a pit bull owner, and have done extensive research which suggests that temperament for the breeds is relatively stable, and it is a combination of genetics and responsible ownership that dictate how the animal will behave. I'll share some of my resources at the bottom...if you are as much an advocate for research as you say, and I'm sure you'd be willing to look at some that doesn't necessairly corroborate your point of view. I know I am willing to do the same.

Just food for thought: Banning doesn't really solve anything. You still would have the problem of people obtaing and owning them illegally, which only serves to exacerbare the problem (i.e., such owners would be less likely to seek training, socialize, etc.). There ae other, more effective ways of handling the issue and keeping the public (innocent bystanders) safe, such as: 1. enforcing stricter leash laws; 2. low-cost spay/neuter; 3. low-cost training options 4. harsher punishments for irresponsible owners; 5. no-chain laws. Just to name a few. There is an interesting site on which the author depicts what a hypothetical ban of "dangerous dogs" (including pit bulls and rottweilers) would look like in her neighborhood. The results are interesting, and not what you would expect. Check it out at: http://www.stopbsl.com/neighborhoodbsl.htm

Did my research. Maybe you should do more. Pit bulls are being used as service dogs, SAR dogs, the #1detection dog for customs is a pit bull named Popsicle. They are used as therapy dogs. Three US presidents owned pits while in the white house Wilson Roosevelt and Kennedy. Helen Keller owned one. Petey of the Our Gang kids was a pit bull. The pit bull was used as a symbol of pride and courage in both world wars. The first Military dog was Sarg. Stubby, a pit bull who caught a spy, woke and saved his fellow soldiers from a gas attack. He was given a purple heart and a gold metal for his courage by Wilson. Weela the 1998 raslton dog of the year was a pit bull who saved 39 people and 10 horses from a flood. It is not the dogs fault how they are brought up it is the human. Perhaps if animal cruelty was more than a slap on the wrist there would be less problems. By the way my service dog is a pit bull who is out in the public everyday. He rides the bus with me, goes to stores and walks down the street with no problem. My niece's rott was one of the best dogs I have ever seen. He died protecting her when a hood tried to car jack her. Her new dog, a chocolate lab attack and put her son in the hosptil. He almost lost his eye. Guess what AC did not even take a report becasue as we all know labs are good family dogs. I would like to point out that a 6#pom killed a baby. Maybe we should ban them too. Don't like what I say Email I will give you my phone number and tell you what a jack *** you are to your face kinda

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with you. I own a Yorkshire Terrier and I took him to my co-worker's house one day so my dog could play with her dogs.

My co-worker has three Rotties (all weigh at least 110 pounds a piece), and I tell you, they couldn't have been the sweetest dogs I've ever met! They all were very gentle and playful with my 3 pound dog. And I will take my dog to play with them again.

I don't know what you've heard about Pits and Rotties, but I suggest you do more research. Those dogs have the reputation they have because of irresponsible and selfish owners. Saying a dog should be banned is like saying we should ban a certain group of people.

I do not believe they should be banned. Both can be very loving and good pets as well as guard dogs.

Irresponsible owners who do not take proper care of them need to be banned. When having any dog it is important to properly train them, make sure they get enough exercise and food.

In my experience I am more likely to get bit from a tiny toy dog than a large Pitbull or Rottie.

You can check out Cesear Milans website for good stories on both Pitbulls and Rotties

I don't think Rottweilers should be banned. I have met many Rottweilers and have yet to meet one that wasn't a big sweetheart. If I was going to start banning things, I would ban people from owning dogs when they don't have good dog experience, or they have been shown in the past that they can't keep their dog in their care and under good control.

I can't find research that tells me that these breeds should be banned.

I see a lot of hype, misinformation and hysteria. I also see that over time, different breeds have taken the place of the pitt bull and the Rott. There will always be a new scapegoat.

I'd like to see your research to show me otherwise.

Thank you.

It's ROTTWEILER. And no, they should not be. Why? Do you and why? Research on what? Watch "The Dog Whisperer", I don't think you really understand either breed. Not to be mean, but I totally disagree. Have had Rottweilers for 21 years so far, would never change it. Pit's are just as sweet...they both have a bad rap.

I don't AT ALL

it depends on the owner.
any dog snaps and they're put into the viciuos category
I honetly have a huge soft spot for both and grew up with both
yes theres bad stories but come on thats what people want
I was in diapers with them
any type of dog can snap smaller ones do more but they aren't banned
why?
because even though they do more they aren't scary looking

I extremely disagree, and think i have all the research i need. My family has owned pits since before i was born. I was raised with them and now i own my own. If there given proper training and love, they are wonderful pets and friends! Its the ones who are locked in a basement or tied to a tree with a chain in the back yard and aren't socialized who are mean. And do you blame them?! I would be to!
