Ask your mom if it's ok for you to spend your birthday money on a dog.

I am happy that your mum's friend's dog was de-sexed. Yes puppies are cute and adorable so people don't desex their pets but because of this, there is the ever present problem of pet overpopulation. Many many many dogs and puppies are in shelters across the world and a lucky minority will be able to find new homes but for the rest of them- they will be put down. It angers me to know that these dogs are not being put down because they are sick or are in pain but for the mere reason that they cannot find a new home because their stupid owners gave them up or whatever.
So I suggest that you think seriously about why you want a pup? Is it because pups are cute? Will you still love the pup once it grows up? Puppies are very naughty though cute, expect them to go to the toilet in your house until they are trained, expect them to chew on things that you like etc etc.
All I am trying to say is that make sure you know what ur in for before you get a pup. How about the shelter? You can get dogs and pups from shelters and last I saw there were dacshunds there,

Being a dog person myself, I can understand your disappointment . Don't be upset with your Mom, as it was her friend's dog and your Mom had nothing to do with the dacshund being fixed. A "fixed" female dog cannot have any puppies and that is why you can't have any of the dog's puppies. Check with pet shops, SPCA, animal shelters for a mini-dacshund, although I don't think you will find one through those sources. Private breeders charge hundreds of dollars for their puppies. I hope you find one.

Oh! I was like "Why can't she get the dog if it's fixed?"hah.
Well, I wouldn't get the puppy on christmas because being in a new enviroment with all the stress from the holidays, would probably stress out the puppy a lot. Maybe you and your mom could look around in local shelters and see if you see any there. If not go to petfinder.com.
have a nice day =)

Well maybe you can still get one. If it means a lot to you maybe you're mom will still get you one. I don't know how old you are but if you were going to get one for you're b-day I'm guessing you still live at home. Just tell your parents you really want one. I don't know your family's money situation but pet shops sell them or you could find a local breeder and I believe there are rescue orginizations that will let you adopt. Just let them know how much you want a mini dachsund.

I don't get it. Why can't you get a dachshund because it's fixed? It's better if the dog is fixed.
ADD: Oh, ok. I'd ask her if you could adopt one. There are tons of purebred dachshunds in shelters that need good homes. Look on www.petfinder.com or www.craigslist.com for some in your area in need. Explain to your mom that it's good to adopt a dog for several reasons like you're saving a dog from living its life in a shelter, they generally cost less, most are already altered, utd on shots, some are housebroken, and shelter dogs have a lot to offer and lots of love to give. I just adopted another dachshund from a shelter last Thursday-a black/tan long haired miniature dachshund, so it is possible to get purebreds in shelters, if you really want one.

Look into dachound rescue or the shelters! You can google for rescues in your area and tehn talk things over with your mom. You'll be saving a life! Bad idea to ask for a pet for B-day/Christmas. That's when puppymills and back yard breeders are selling poorly bred dogs. Check out rescues!

Look in the newspaper or in a local shelter and see if they have any Dacshunds available to adopt. Many times you can get them free and others at low cost. Please look there before deciding to buy one.
