when he jumps he grabs my shirt. I don't want holes in my clothes but I do want to play with him just not by him jumping on me.

He has been to obedience training, and I have hired a dog trainer.

He does know Off when he is on the couch trying to get something on the counter.

I will use Off when he jumps on me too!

Thanks!

U have to make ur self the Master..
and u are the one in control.. not ur dog..

Use discipline.. and talk with a strong deep voice.. when giving a command..
so he will no when u are playing and when u mean business..

First off, dogs who do that have absolutely no respect for their owners. What kind of situation do you have with the rest of your relationship? Does your dog dart out of doors before you? Does he just eat as soon as you put the food down or do you make him wait? When you go to throw the ball do you make him sit first to earn it?

All of these little things will teach the dog that you are in charge and that you demand respect. If he starts the jumping and biting - then playtime is DONE. Do NOT continue playing or it will just let him know he can continue to disrespect you.

I have 7 large dogs and NONE of them do that as it is NOT allowed EVER. If any of them even jump up near me, they are instantly put on a leash and made to sit over away from where the rest of us are playing.

They are wonderful trainers and really are great at explaining stuff.

Doggy obedience school would really help. I'm telling you this because I had the same problem with my APBT, along with a few other issues. Petsmart offers a reasonable doggy class for $100. I've heard good things about it.

Wait until the dog starts to jump at you.
Bring your leg up sideways so it connects with the dog's chest and pushes him back. Do this gently.
Praise the dog when he stops jumping.

First of all, NEVER hit your dog in the nose. This is like poking a little kid in the eye to get him to behave. Dogs' #1 sensory organ is their nose.
Second, dogs respond more to non-verbal correction that verbal correction. Think about how dogs interact with one another - with people, its all talking; with dogs, its body language and biting. Try to simulate a dog "bite" by quickly pinching your dog's neck or ear (they can withstand a pretty hard pinch). This is how adult dogs correct unwanted behavior in young dogs, and they've been doing this effectively for thousands of years.

The word here is "OFF"
You can teach this to your dog very easily.
the next time your dog jumps up on you give the command OFF and with one of your knee`s give your dog a slight pop in the chest.
the second your dog is off Praise with"Good Off"
Keep repeating this exercise till it stops.
Heck you can even get to the point where as your trying to lure your dog to jump up on you, just keep on giving that knee to the chest, and rewarding with "Good Off"
You will have to keep an eye on him with strangers or friends so that when he does it they as well give him a knee,
Now don`t misunderstand, I`m not telling you to knee your dog into next week, just a slight pop where as you can see your dog is surprised by your action.
An umph is not a bad thing but no further.
Good Luck

Obedience training is the key here. When your dog plays too rough, you need to be able to give him a command and the play should stop and he should obey. Take an obedience class and learn how to control your dog. It really helps.

palm down and on his nose. Push him down and tell him/her NO. It gets worse you don't stop it.

Pop him in the nose (not hard, just enough to get his attention) when he does it and firmly tell him no. He will stop. Mine used to do it all the time.
