Dogs - July 2007

there were four dogs abandoned by 33 rd and sunderland one got hit by a car and two we resued. i need a dog trap so i can get that last one anyone have one i can borrow have or rent at a low cost in ne portland or se portland please help me that dog has been alone for 4 days now i have tried the humane society and animal control they cant help i want to keep this dog so it can be with their sisters i dont want it to die

My dog was diagnosed with parvo today, she is a miniature collie about 6 months old, it was only last night that we noticed she seemed to only want to just lay around. This morning she vomited and was still lethargic so we took her to the vet. Due to the extreme cost of treatments, we are having to treat her at home, they sent us home with antibiotics, anti nausea meds, and told us to give her gatorade and chicken broth. He said it has been caught early, but still the odds I know aren't in her favor. Has anyone had a puppy survive parvo with at home treatment??

I adopted an 11 month old female jack russell from a family who didn't want her 2 weeks ago. She has come out of her shell a bit but doesn't want to play, eat or bark. The only time she barks is when I leave the house. She won't play with toys at all. She also won't leave my side. I am constantly tripping over her. I know that JRT's are very attention dependent, which is what I expected, but when I close the bathroom she cries and scratches, even if I talk to her. She is sweet but I would like her to be a bit more boisterous. Any suggestions?

Our male great dane is about 3 months old, and absolutely refuses to be house trained! We have tried kennel training him, doesnt work, we've tried swatting him, also no phasing him. He wont go on the puppy pads either. Any suggestions, please help! Thanks!!!

I have "trained" my puppy to come when I snap by giving her treats when she does so. Now if I call her and she doesn't see a treat, she won't come.

my dog is having puppies and id like to know if it is better to keep her in a dog carrier thats a little bit bigger than 2 ft. by 3.5 ft. or to let her stay in the garage. if i leave her in the dog carrier, im afraid she might step on the puppies and if i let her in the garage im afraid she might have them all over the place and they get into places or something. Whats your oppinion?

I know this might sound disgusting but I have a serious question... My dog is about 10 yrs old. he is a german shephard. For about 2 months he has had trouble going to the bathroom (pooping) he acts like he can't go but it is all over his rear and is kinda gross but I feel really sorry for him. We have taken him to the vet and given him laxitives for it but it hasnt helped. He can't hardly walk because of it. What is wrong with my dog?? only serious answers please.

ok well so far she has had 2 puppies and about 30 min or less in between every puppy.. is this normal or not? she has already had puppies and the last time she had puppies, she had 11. The mom is a heeler. Does that have to do with how many puppies she has? And any other information would be great.. =]

I recently found a small white schnauzer.
1. how do i know if my schnauzer is miniature, standard or giant?
2. how do i know its age?
3. does it change color?
4. when is it fully grown?
right now it is around 15 inches tall..
someone told me she's 1 year old.
does it grow more ?

I have a 2 yr. old pug/chiuhuahua mix who is an absolute joy, except in the mornings. Whenever either my mom or I try to pick her up to take her outside she starts to growl, show her teeth, and snap at us. She's never done this before and only in the past few weeks or so has she started to do it every morning. The strange thing is, this only happens in the mornings. If we wake her from a nap during the day she's absolutly fine, no problems what so ever. Normally she's a very playful and loving dog and very attached to my mom and me. Does anyone have a clue what could be going on? And if so, any advice on how to break her of this habit?

My dog carn't hear his white and a lot of people say a lot of white dogs carn't hear.His 15 weeks now and we have had him sience he was 8 weeks he carn't hear us when we call but is not to bad with some hand signals and sits when we do them.wi he be abe to go to a norm trainning school for dogs if not where would i take him? thanks

she is a chihuahua/Miniature pincher mix 1 1/2 years old, she gets very violent and chases and bites people thats she doesnt like/know and she hates kids so i need help training her to be cool with kids and obey when i tell her to stop chasing people and she will listen only when she wants too.

My bulldog puppy has lots of stuffed animals he plays with all the time, especially a teddy bear he got for Valentine's that he likes to "hump." Is it safe to wash these in the washing machine and if so, any tips on how? If I wash them, will he stop playing with them like he did before? And should I also wash out his rubber chew toys? We have people over alot and we got our pup a month ago. He's so sweet and hes great once you get to know him, but i think he scares my friends a little because he just barks and growls for sometimes 20 mins on and off until he realizes they're not gonna kill him (LOL). Is there anything i can do to make the experiance of people at the house more pleasurable for him? can i calm him down in some way? Thanks.
