My dog goes balistic whenever the postal person, or any person, or animal is outside our property. He has a built in bullhorn in his lungs, that will not seem to shut off. I love him dearly. (He's about seven.) He knows the down, sit, and come commands (with some hesitation, or treat bribeing;) but he seems to want to be in control of his barking. It frustrates me and my family. Sometimes I start to count to four and he momentarily pauses or lowers to a gurring-growl. Help please...What humane advice do you have please to save our ears, our sanity, and our dog's throat? Thank you. :)
PS We also have a two year old dog who is very well behaved, and the neighbor dog barks worse than our dog; and as a matter of fact, even get's our dog to join it in the barking if it sees something first. I think our neighbor dog is neglected and it's barking is ignored by it's owners. We can not control or stop it's barking. But our two year old does stop on command if he joins in. TY :)

Recently some detection dogs were found to be able to find objects they could not see or smell...How is that possible?

Anyone know any cute names for a male jack russell?
Something original, nothing like buddy, rover, jack.

I know some people generally dont think this is true but the dog reflects it's owner many times and this doggy " JILLIE" is gentle and docile and loving.

I come in here and answer questions on breeding, fleas and ticks, and other various dog and house and garden questions. However, when I do, I see so many dangerous answers and I get scared! There was a question the other day about a dog that ate a bottle of Terro ant killer. The asker said that the vet told her Borax is harmless to pets! Ummm, it is a poison. I looked at the MSDS (material safety data sheet) and it wasn't at all "harmless". I have read answers that said to use sevan dust on dogs and puppies. (Only if you want dead or sick dogs and puppies.) One person wants you to burn a tick off a dog. (Have you ever tried to light a match or lighter near a wiggling dog?) How about the old "rub the dog's nose in his business" or "hit him with a newspaper" comments.

Is there anything dangerous that I have missed? Does this worry anyone else?

This was usggested to me by a dog trainer to teach my dog to walk nicely on a leash. I tried it and though it seems to help alot, I'm not sure it's a good idea because it just looks like it hurts. I only had to give a slight tug and she walked next to me the rest of the way. (about 20 min.) Never even attempted to pull again. If you have used it, for how long until you were able to go back to a regular collar?

hey, my dog was put to sleep two days ago. Me and my family are gonna start to look for a new dog in about 6 months or so! I'm 13, its kinda hard. One side of me cant wait for the new dog and the other side gives me a sick feeling when i think of replacing connor. what can i do to eez the pain when i get a new dog, oh yeah and dont say "dont get a new dog" or "wait longer then that" because i really do want a new dog, i just wanna know how to eez the pain for myslef and my little 11 year old brother. mostly him tho. he took it worse because he's younger and grew more attatched, but hes the same with me and he really wants a new dog but feels sick when he thinks of replacing him. What should i do and think to help myself. Please tell me answers that dont have to do with not getting a dog! thanks!

I'm thinking about getting a couple Great Danes. What is your take on this large breed and what pointers could you give me about raising these gentle giants?

On the Adoption papers from the S.P.C.A the previous owner provided the kennel that she was bred at. I contacted the breeder and he was furious the previous owner gave her up to the S.P.C.A rather than bringing her back to the kennel she was bred at. I guess the previous owner signed papers that he would return her to the kennel if there was any problems. She has existing registered pure bred papers. Is there anyway I can legally get these papers since I am the new owner. How do I go about this? If anyone has any advice please let me know I would really appreciate it. I would like to register her with the APTTA of B.C. Can I just ask the breeder? Can I pay for these forms?? I guess I could just ask him hey? Any advice?

What temperature will start to make a dog dehydrate and pant too much on a walk? Also, when it is a hot day I know that you can let your dog walk on the grass, but what are other ways to keep him cool?

There has been an influx of stupid and potentialy dangerous questions being asked here on YA. Dogs have different drives but what does being a "drive Mechanic" mean and where do we get the term "kill drive" from? Why do people come up with such nonsense and try to pass it off as actual events?

She is acting weird, staying in her crate and being pitiful. No exuberance or excitement. Is it just shock or is she sick? She isn't acting sick. Just has a different personality-lethargic and pitiful.

My dog has had really bad diarrhea on and off for 4 weeks now its yellow looking and really watery. We have been the vets and so far it has cost nearly £200. Has anyone else's dog had anything like this.
In herself she is fine and playful just she hasn't gone properly for so long now and we're really worried.
Please help.

People posting "my dog is vomiting a lot, what should I do?" WHY don't they have enough common sense to take them to the vet?! I mean seriously they are letting their dog die while they are sitting asking questions to mostly non-professionals on the computer! :( When they can just go to the vet and find out the problem!

She likes sitting on top of the couch and pressing her nose against the window staring at everything that passes by. It's really making the window nasty. And also if a dog passes by, she barks like crazy. Actually she's kinda like those crazy old ladies who just look out the window.
Any help?

Here is a pic of her staring for your enjoyment. x(

I have a 21 month old female gsd/cattle dog mix and I am fostering a 13 month old male collie/St. Bernard mix. They are chasing each other around the house pawing and jumping on each other. They are also play biting, but neither is acting aggressive to one another. My question is since they are still young is this play or something I should seperate them on..IIs that behavior normal at their age? .There are no raised tails, growling, raised hair on back.. I never leave them alone together and crate pup when I am gone.
