Well, you could always try keeping the curtains shut...
No seriously, I know how annoying that can be, and it can get destructive if they're really obsessed and persistent about it. What you need to do is find a way to get her attention away from the window and directed on something else instead. Like you, or a toy.
When she's just looking, and there's nothing out there, can you call her name and get her to look away from the window at you? If so, that's great, just do that and offer her a treat or toy or just pet her and praise her whenever she comes away from the window. If not, try something more noisy and startling like banging two pans together or dropping a coffee can full of pennies or something like that.
Work on it first when there's nothing outside. When a dog comes by, you're going to have to try to stop her BEFORE she gets out of control and starts really barking, otherwise it will be very difficult to break her concentration. Try enlisting the help of a friend with a dog and have them walk back and forth so you know when there's a dog coming, and call your dog away from the window as soon as the dog comes into sight, and give her a tasty treat or a really good petting or something like that. If you don't catch it in time and she's barking her head off, you can try the loud noise thing, if that doesn't work you might be able to just touch her side or something and get her attention, or grab her collar and pull her away, but be careful because some dogs that are barking out of aggression may bite you without even knowing what they're doing. Don't yell at her, but speak calmly and firmly and tell her something like "Quiet!" and then take her into another room where she can't see outside and leave her there for a few minutes until she's calmed down.
Good luck.

It looks like you have a Jack Russel terrier! Those are great dogs, if I'm correct about the breed of your dog than you should be okay. Jack Russel terriers are the type of dog that you can train. The done side is that you have to keep telling it to something over an over again. SO next time it starts barking on the coach hold it's mouth and say NO in a firm voice so it knows it's doing wrong.

Jack Russell's need lots and lots of exercise. Take her for at least 2 walks a day if you can with lots of extra play time in between. They need something to do. I have a terrier who does the same thing...........she loves to lay in the window.....and barks at people walking by or other dogs...........the minute she starts barking I distract her attention away from the window until things die down outside. The more exercise she gets, though, the less she barks and just lays in the window watching. She gets great pleasure out of it. Then I just clean the windows.

Sounds like your dog has little to do but look outside. A dog is a pack animal and protects its territory, even that outside the window, e.g., barking. Maybe you need to spend more time playing and walking the dog.

Make her get down from the couch everytime she goes nuts. Or, if you don't like her to be up there at all, perhaps you could put something over the window until she breaks the habit. Eventually, she will learn to chill out.

Most likely, your giving her attention for it, and whether its bad attention or good attention, its still attention. When she does it, clap your hands, say "enough" in a loud bold, voice, and walk out of the room. Don't make eye contact with her. If she doesn't catch on, the try getting two pans and bashing them together every time she does it. Still don't make eye contact. When she leaves the window, give her lots of praise.

okay... i have two dogs that do the same exact thing. we tried to stop her. ( she taught him when he got here) and she ruined the grass in the back yard by making a track... so... there really isn't anyway. atleast for my dog. but i think you should move the couch away from the window so she can't reach it. hope it helps!

Dogs usually do that if they are bored and need something to do. I would suggest find your dog a new toy or something to distract him/her. Hope this helped!
