There has been an influx of stupid and potentialy dangerous questions being asked here on YA. Dogs have different drives but what does being a "drive Mechanic" mean and where do we get the term "kill drive" from? Why do people come up with such nonsense and try to pass it off as actual events?

I know of documented cases where dogs have actually killed people, and I know of instances where a dog killed another animal for food. However, I never knew of a dog that had to kill because of some "drive" that he had absolutely no control over.

To answer your question directly ... "Where do some people get their information on dog drives and behavior?"
It seems as though many folks trust the "geniuses" on Yahoo Answers as the definitive source for all their queries.

Do you mean prey drive? There are some dogs that have a strong prey drive, (some coon hounds) and some have work drives (border collies).. In all my years I have never heard drive mechanic... but I guess you mean that a dog has a certain 'drive' and it was taught it is inbred.

If this is completely off the mark.. sorry but I just didnt understand the question

what happens, and it doesn't just happen with dogs, is that people hear a theory that sounds good, and they run with it. Happened with the Cesar Milan phenominon when everyone was determined to be a pack leader. Happens in the mental health field all the time. We latch on to an "answer" and try to make it cover everything. That's human nature, i guess...maybe a "human drive"?

overall it's fairly stupid, but we persist in doing it.

I dunno but they are on the ego train to dummyville - unless they are trying to expain something they can't understand/fully articulate ??

If people ask about kill drives - It only translates ( for me ) to idoits looking for fight dogs - & such people need to be locked up
