I adopted an 11 month old female jack russell from a family who didn't want her 2 weeks ago. She has come out of her shell a bit but doesn't want to play, eat or bark. The only time she barks is when I leave the house. She won't play with toys at all. She also won't leave my side. I am constantly tripping over her. I know that JRT's are very attention dependent, which is what I expected, but when I close the bathroom she cries and scratches, even if I talk to her. She is sweet but I would like her to be a bit more boisterous. Any suggestions?

Has she been to the vet? You may need to talk them about the separation anxiety and not playing. She has had a rough month and could possibly be suffering from a doggy depression. Cute as she probably is try not to baby her. This can reinforce undesirable behaviours.

Try not to have the same pattern of actions before you leave her. Come and go and various intervals. At 11 months she is still a pup so hopefully will adjust soon and be racing around like a mad thing.

You got her 2 weeks ago? She may take a little long to adjust. I had a little terrier mix who took almost a month to warm up to me. He took so long because he had come from an abusive environment. It might take time.Maybe when she gets used to you a little more she will be more outgoing. Try to find a favorite toy. Maybe let her pick one from the pet store. Then again she may just be of a quiet personality. I hope this helps.

You need to give her time, she is still adjusting to you & her new enviroment, do not rush it or she will back off completely
