We've been taking him out every 30 minutes, irregardless of him showing he wants to go out or not. Also, were wanting to wait to neuter him for another couple of months; the vet said his life expectancy would increase the longer we waited....?

Have you tried old-fashioned leash training? Don't wait until he shows signs of wanting to go - you take him outside straight after he has eaten, slept and played, and you keep him in one spot until he performs, then you praise him ecstatically and give him a treat, or reward him with his favourite game like tug-of-war or whatever. Don't let him off the leash and don't let him wander off or get distracted. He will get the message within a few days, however stubborn he is.

The other thing you should do is get him neutered as soon as your vet says it's okay (should be now, as a matter of fact) to reduce or eliminate the possibility that he will carry on marking his territory indoors.

(And thank you, thank you for not talking about "potty training", or how the dog "uses the bathroom" or "restroom" on the carpet - so very strange!)

You don't discipline the dog for going in the house, a dog that voids in the home is not trained...so the HUMAN has to learn to housebreak the dog not discipline it. Do not yell at the dog, bury it's nose in it or beat the dog....these methods are antiquated and abusive. Doing something as distasteful as these can cause the dog to not just continue to void in the house but to also hide it so you don't hit it, yell, bury it's nose in it and that would be worse than the dog just going in the open.

The proper way to potty train a dog...

Whenever the dog is in the house and not crated put a body harness and leash on the dog, tie end of leash to your belt. Wherever you go the dog goes. When you see the dog start to signal (sniff/circle/scratch) that it's got to go than run the dog out to where you want it to go. Praise, reward (immediately) and use a command word consistently. When the dog shows it's learned to go outside consistently by dragging you to the outside than you can undo the leash from your belt. Keep the leash on the dog still and keep an eye on it whenever it is in the house and not crated so if it starts to make an accident you can grab the leash and run it outside. Once it is going outside with no attempted accidents for at least a week than you can take the leash off.

The most common mistake in potty training is giving the dog freedom to roam the house without supervision where the human doesn't see the dog signal it needs to go.

And if your dog is a puppy remember it only has an average hold time of 1 hour for every month of it's life until they reach 8-10 months or so and can hold overnight (usually).

Also, make sure the crate is properly sized for the pup. It should be big enough for the dog to walk in, turnaround and lie down...no bigger. Remember to always take pup out to potty whenever it wakes up from nap, is removed from crate, and before being put into crate. Remove food/water from pup's access an hour before bedtime to reduce the times it needs to go out at night, though it still will ned to, I mean it's a puppy.

Get rid of the potty pads...just do outside potty training. To you potty pads mean it's okay to pee in house on these, to dog it means it's okay to pee in house.

**** life expectancy won't increase if you wait to neuter, however since he is a giant breed he should not be neutered until he is 9- 12 months old unless he starts displaying undesired male behaviors*******

TAKE him out don't just put him out, stay out with him until he goes and then praise him lavishly for a job well done..if he doesn't go within a reasonable amount of time bring him in and put him in his crate (crate should only be big enough so he can stand up and lay down, no larger) for @ 15 minutes then TAKE him back outside.
Do NOT let him have run of the house unsupervised...NEVER punish a dog for an accident, rather if you catch him in the act, simply in a firm but not yelling voice tell him no, scoop him up and take him outside to finish, if you didn't catch him don't call attention to the accident but rather simply clean it up with a good cleaner such as Nature's Miracle.
Do NOT use puppy pads, especially for a breed this size.
Also please be consistant in your training..he is only 12 weeks old and according to your post you have already tried several different things..this is only serving to confuse him more and complicate the training process..stick to one method..BE CONSISTANT!!!!!
Also be advised he is only 12 weeks old..he can't be expected at this young age to be "housetrained" completely and he will have accidents...these likely will occur off and on up until he is @ 6 mnoths old.

Take him out every hour. Be sure to take him to the exact spot you want him to use: every time. Stand there and give him the command: "go pee" or "get busy" If you are doing something and can't watch him, put him in kennel. Take him to his spot after any play activity, whether inside or outside.
Give lots of praise when he does go. Withhold water except at meals until he is trained. (Do you also control his food consumption so he doesn't get bloat? We feed in a 12 cup muffin tin so he has to search for the kibbles and doesn't gulp). NO HITTING!

take him for long walks and watch the dog whisperer. figure out how often he goes potty and that is when you take him out for walk. Hitting them is wrong would u hit your kids if they pee? Reward and praise your puppy after he goes outside and he will start going more and more til he is potty trained. you can do it, be consistent and dont hit him anymore!!! awww poor pup. oh and after he eats you take him outside until he goes poop then praise him they usually like poop about 20 minutes after they eat. good luck.
