When my dog sleeps he twitches, which I know is normal. But at night when everybody is in bed sleeping he goes to sleep too. But he howls in his sleep. Really loud. I was wondering if that is normal....?

I walk my dogs 3 miles a day and they play when he decides to get up. Do dogs live in the moment or do you believe he misses his last owner? He never walked or took rides much at the last house and I keep them pretty active. The change in routine may also be a reason for his tiredness. What do you think?

My dog is CRAZY. She's a golden retriever, so she's super friendly, but when she sees a rabbit, she goes nuts! We have a choke collar on her. I love animals, so I'm so afraid that it's going to damage her neck! So I never pull to hard. We had a normal collar on her, but she always wiggles out of it and runs away! I want to know, can choke collars do damage to a dog's neck?

I have a minpin that is about 9 inches high (sorry, I'm not quite sure how much she weighs). She is due to have puppies in a few weeks. I know I need to get her used to her whelping box soon. But I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what to use.

And PLEASE don't say, "You need to spay your dog." I know you all have your opinions about the dog population, and I don't even necessarily disagree with them, but please, don't tell me what to do. I'm a big girl and I can make my own decisions.

My puppy is four months old. She is shedding quite a bit! I brought her home 3 weeks ago. The breeder had been feeding her Pedigree Puppy food. After some research, I switched her to Wellness Puppy Super 5 Mix. She eats approximately 3/4 cup daily. There is almost always 1/4 cup left at the end of the evening. I bathed her very well, using a recommended puppy shampoo. She is brushed thoroughly daily. However, she still sheds regularly. Is this typical of this breed? Please provide any suggestions, information, etc. if you are familiar with the CKCS breed.
Also, please give your opinion on the following recommendations: Nutro Puppy Food; Zoom Groom Brush; Furminator Comb; Rubber Curry; Fish, Salmon or Cod Liver Oil; LoShed Spray.
Thank you for your input.

I have a couple of questions about collies:

-What is the difference between a rough collie and a smooth collie?

-Which is a better pet?

-Is one friendlier than another?

Thanks for all your help. I decided that I am going to get a collie =)

I have a 41 pound Labrador retriever mix. Lately he has been pretty gassy, and the stench is so horrible I have to look around to make sure he didn't poop on the floor!

Since we rescued him over two years ago hes been on Nutro brand foods with no problems. We feed him one greenie and a chicken jerky treat that he's never had this issue with before.

Any ideas?

I have been feeding my puppy nutro natural choice. I know that when you change the food brand you have to do it over a couple of days so they dog can get used to it. I don't want to change the brand I just want to change the flavor, do I still have to do it over a couple of days?

This might be a dumb question, but if they have long hair, doesn't the pee get on their fur? Or do you shave the belly part and just let the side hair hang over (so you can't really tell that the belly is shaved unless the dog is on it's back)?

I'm considering getting a male Samoyed, I'm just not sure how the hair/pee thing is going to work out with a male dog.

My fiance owns a 6yr. old basset. We have been living together for about 4 or 5 months. The basset listens to me sometimes but then other times my fiance has to repeat what I have already told the dog to do like for instance sometimes we'll eat in bed(I'm 25weeks pregnant and our chairs make my already hurt back hurt more) and the dog(who usually sleeps on the bed and lays there during the day) will jump up and just put his face in my food not my fiance's just mine he's even gone so far to lick it before. I tell him to stop or no and he doesn't my fiance tells him to and SOMETIMES he'll just leave and lay at the end of the bed. Now I know this dog has and is spoiled but it really needs to stop(there is a baby coming) but he is a very stubborn dog. Oh and when we go for walks he usually walks without a leash because our apartment is gated so there is just no flying cars going by and he stays close by. But when I take him for a walk I take a leash with me cause he doesn't listen but..

I have a twenty week old, male American Pit-bull Terrier. He is not yet nuetered but I plan on doing it sooner than later. My question is, he won't kennel train, and I do everything I'm supposed to. I started kennel training him the day after I got him, he was eight weeks then. I don't pay attention to his whining, I tell him good boy when he is quiet, and let him out after he falls asleep, and I don't put him in there when he does something wrong. He knows that when I say bed that it means go into the kennel, but he will whine immediately after, then he will quiet and start whining, and barking. He gets worse when we eat at the dinner table or when I'm preparing food. That's also another thing is he begs, begs and begs, I have tried everything to stop this behaviour, but nothing works. When I get mad and use a deep loud voice he thinks that I am playing, and he only listens when I have treats, but I can't always rely on treats. Any advice? No rude comments abou the breed, I wil report

If the puppy you are buying or adopting is supposed to arrive in a plane (bec of distance you can't visit the place where the puppy was born), and the puppy looks healthy, how can you tell if the seller is a reputable breeder or runs a puppy mill?

I'll start from the beginning: We(I and my parents)have three boxers; a father a son, and a daughter. Now, the female puppy just had her first heat, and I tried to tell my mother to separate the dogs, but she only listened after she found the father and daughter stuck together. So, I'm pretty sure we are going to have inbred puppies. But that's not the worst part. Last weekend, my mom took the dogs to get their shots. I told her that it would be harmful to any puppies that Cleo might be having, but she didn't tell the vet, and Cleo got her shots anyway. So, not only could the puppies be retarted because they're inbred, but their imune systems could be messed up now, and the mother is too immature to have pups. My mom won't pay for an abortion, and I dont know what to do. Weve dealt with one of our boxers being pregnant before, but never like this. What do I do? Please dont call me a backyard breeder.Im only thirteen, and I tried to stop this from happening

I've had my dog for seven years now and never thought it was offensive to allow him to pee on shrubbery along the street, even if it happens to be at the edge of someone's front yard. He always walks on a leash and I pick up any solid material he may deposit. Today someone got quite offended I allowed him to pee on a tree trunk in their yard. It was right along the street's curb and the tree is very mature so I don't think it hurt the tree. Am I insensitive to think this isn't a big deal?

I am a dog lover, but after having 2 of my dogs attacked by pit bulls, having to keep another pit bull from killing a dog last year, and all of the people attacked and children killed by pitbulls in the media, don't you feel they need to be outlawed?

I know if you raise a dog right, it can be a sweet animal, but their kinda like owning a machine gun, some people just can't be trusted to do the right thing. Your thoughts..
