I walk my dogs 3 miles a day and they play when he decides to get up. Do dogs live in the moment or do you believe he misses his last owner? He never walked or took rides much at the last house and I keep them pretty active. The change in routine may also be a reason for his tiredness. What do you think?

I have 3 shih tzus and 3 miles seems like quite a bit too far for them to walk. Probably just tired.

Shih tzu's don't need much exercise. The amount they get following you around your house is enough. They do like to go for walks, just probably not for 3 miles. I talk mine 2 for about a half mile every morning, we get the paper and visit with neighbors (always a favorite activity of theirs).

There is a reason why many consider them to be the cat of the dog world. They are more than content to sleep at our feet or lap...one of mine is underfoot right now!

They do become very attached to their owners, so much so that when I say the word "Poppa" they both go running to the door in anticipation!

Walking a shih-tzu 3 miles a day is probably too much for him and that's why he is tired! Remember his tiny legs! He is also going through an adjustment period and since it is so different, he's probably exhausted. I would maybe cut down a little on the exercise and see how he does.

If he is not used to activity that could be why he is tired. 3 miles is a little far for a shih- tzu also you may be pushing for too much at once . See your Vet if your concerned, to rule out any illness.

If he's not used to that much exercise, 3 miles may be a bit much for a little Shih Tzu. They have pushed in faces and can't pant to cool off as well as dogs with longer muzzles. He may just be exhausted. Take it easy with him for awhile and keep him cool. If he is new to you, then he needs time to adjust to his new life.

Probley the little thing is missing his former owners or if there was another dog in the picture he is missing it.Take it to the vet. make sure there is nothingphisically wrong.Tell your vet about his depression, yes dogs get depressed just like people do.Maybe you overdoing all the activity and he is just tired. How old ? 3miles is a long way if you out of shape.
