Dogs aren't into sex for recreation. The existence or lack thereof of a "girlfriend" doesn't make a difference, unless she's in season.

This is about dominance. Your dog needs training.

When you say 'took him to the vet' do you mean you had him castrated? This doesn't always halt the unwanted behaviour, especially in older dogs (older than about 10 months I mean). The best chance of stopping this behaviour is to have the animal castrated before 6 months of age, but even then, many animals who are neutered at an early age still develop sexual behaviour - all animals are different. Even spayed female dogs can be like this, even spayed female cats.

It may also be a dominance thing - dogs hump to assert themselves, a bit of training to establish that your dog is not dominant may help.

Neuter him if he's not already and train him. Humping is often a sign of dominance, not sex.

Don't let him hump everything and everyone. Stop him.

Take him to training class. Hard to hump things if he is in a sit stay or down stay.

You did not mention his age. He may just think he's the boss or trying for that position.

Google Nothing In Life is Free and follow those steps to gently yet firmly establish yourself as leader, NOT the dog.

Have him neutered, if you haven't already. He will be a happier, healthy dog.
