I have a couple of questions about collies:

-What is the difference between a rough collie and a smooth collie?

-Which is a better pet?

-Is one friendlier than another?

Thanks for all your help. I decided that I am going to get a collie =)

1.The only difference is that the rough collie usually has more fur and fluffier fur.
2.They both make wonderful pets but if you are looking for a pet that dosen't require as much grooming as a fluffier dog(like the rough collie) then the smooth collie might be best. They are both wonderful though.
3.No,they are both very friendly and sweet dogs. They make great companians and they are very good with children and other dogs.
I have a Shetland Sheepdog and it is like a mini collie...they are very very sweet dogs. I LOVE mine! They are good if you like collies but want a smaller version. I have played with collies and really liked them,I just wanted a dog that was a little bit smaller. I like rough collies only becayse of their fluffy comfy fur. I hope I helped and good luck!

A rough collie has long thick fur
A smooth collie has short fur
A bearded collie has really long fur and kind of reminds me of an old english sheep dog - remember the movie "The Shaggy DA"?
The pictures are beautiful. My collie looked like the rough collie but with the smooth collies coloring. Have you ever seen a blue merle- they are just gorgeous too.

The only difference is coat length. They are two varieties of the same breed. I grew up with collies. If you can deal with the coat and do a lot of grooming, the long coated ones are fantastic dogs. I don't have a lot of experience with the short coated, but have met a few sweet ones.

A rough collie has thick fur, a smooth collie is a short hair dog. There is no difference in temperament. Both are equally good dogs.

I had to do a report on collies.
Rough collies have thicker fur
Smooth collies don't have as thick of fur.
They're both really friendly and both make great pets,
It's just about your choose

i like the rough collie cause it's cutier but they both make great pets.Although you'd spend more money on the rough collie for grooming purposes.

The only difference is the coat type/length.
They are both very intelligent and active dogs. They need to have a “job” to do to keep their mind occupied and keep them active. Otherwise they can develop some problem or destructive behaviors.
