My GSD gave birth to 7 adorable little pups on friday 22nd June. All are doing really well and look like they are growing very quick. Does anyone now when you can start to bath the pups. I know mum will do it for awhile yet.

I was told by someone several years ago that some Boxers will develop an irregular heartbeat and could die from the condition. I have since bought a Boxer, she is 2 years old. I've tried to research some diseases that Boxers are prone to but didn't find anything. If you know about this topic, could you tell me how frequent this might happen and the name of the conditon? Thanks!

I know there are plenty of holidays around for single people but where can single people with dogs go if they want to take them along. I would like a holiday where my dogs can interact with other dogs and i can mingle with like minded people and socialise with them.

well my dog is really skinny and she wont eat her dog food unless there is human food in it. her favorite treat out of all human food is butter. i found out when she grabbed a stick of butter of the counter and ate it all and i put butter and a hot dog on the ground to see wich one she will eat she chose the butter lol. i dont see any harm in it she needs to gain about 30 lbs anyway. so i just mix butter in with her dog food and sometimes i will put honey butter to. is it good for my dog

OK I have been wondering if I should feel bad about getting a puppy when it's only 6 weeks old? Because every time I ask a question about him someone says something like "It's illegal to have a puppy when it's 6 weeks old." People make it sound mean, like I am an irresponsible owner, which is not true. So should I feel bad for adopting a 6 week old puppy, the breeder said it was fine, but other people don't, Please give me your opinion?

My dog does not have bloody stools, but she is pooping straight, bright red blood.
Somehow she ate a coffee filter with coffee in it yesterday morning but she threw up most of the coffee filter, and no more filter has come through the stools.
Is there anything I can do to help her?
We can't get her to a vet untill friday! We have absolutely no money to spend on a vet visit.
What food should I feed her, (the vet suggested one pepto bismol tablet every 6 hours) are there any random household cures I can try?
Please help me out here, I'm really scared for my dog, she's the only friend I have and I don't know what I'd do if something happeneed to her.
Thank you so very much,
Sheena

I'm trying to housebreak him. He's got #1 down pretty well, but he doesn't seem to understand #2 yet. Is there anything I can feed him to firm up his stool so that when he makes a mistake, it's easier to clean? Right now it's usually very delicate and, well lets be honest here, I can't clean it without smears on the carpet and I'm running out of stain spray. I've generally been feeding him dry Pedigree for small breeds, and just now discovered the mistake of giving canned food (one word: pudding. . . YUCK!). He is a 2 year old scottish terrier. Thank you

I have some neighbors who have rather twisted views on what is considered abusive to animals. They have a full sized female black lab who is just the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Here's the problem. They believe that putting a dog on a leash is abuse so they don't control their dog when it's outside. The result has been my friend's infant being knocked out of her arms b/c the dog jumped on her and the dog's owners didn't do a thing! It's been left outside in pouring rain w/no shelter. Someone had to knock on their door & tell them to bring in the dog. They have also not once, but twice (that we have eye witnessed) locked their dog in the trunk of their honda accord! we called them out on it and the guy said "this is an expensive car man!". Oh please!!! We told him to lay down a sheet or leave the dog at home and he just sped away. We saw him do it again yesterday. I KNOW for a fact that is considered abuse. I have a photo of the 1st time. What can I do for this dog?

my girlfriend (friend who is a chick) thinks that her hybrid boston terrior/french bull dog could be a good therapy dog. at first you look at him and think "this is the ugliest dog i've ever seen" but after awhile he is very cute. she believes he could help sick kids, any thoughts on therapy dogs, i think its a great idea

I am getting a new lab – he’s 5 weeks now. I have trained a few of my dogs in the past with easy things like shake, play dead, heal, roll-over, etc. With the lab, I would like to train him to be a gun dog for hunting. What is a good way to train him for reacting to gun fire? Is there a test other than shooting around him to get him used to it? Is there a good book to recommend? Thanks!

I have a 16 month old Puggle who I recently started letting outside to run off some of her energy (she has a TON) and she keeps digging holes under my fence to get out. I wanted her to have freedom to an extent, insteand of being cooped up in a kennel while I am at work, but I can't trust her to STAY in the backyard. And she tears up anything she gets a hold of when she DOES happen to stay in the yard. Lawnmower seat, GONE! Screendoor on the back porch, GONE! I'm going to have to get rid of her if I can't find a solution to keeping her where she's supposed to be.

For many yrs they have been proven to not really do anything to insure the dogs listed with them are real....so why bother?

Europe has some really good ideas and practices to insure dogs are real and to insure quality....why aren't we doing the same?

Consider this: Most breeders are breeding a good looking dog to another good looking dog and praying they get one good looking puppy...is that what you want?

Should we insist on better breeding practices like Europe where litter sizes are limited and a selection committee picks the dogs who can breed and then selects the pups who get papers?

What do you think?

I'm moving from an apartment to a house, with one small indoor dog. He gets treated every month for fleas and heartworm, but is only outside for a small part of the day. I imagine he'll be outside more often with a yard to run around in. Do I need to treat the yard for fleas, or his personal treatment enough?
