Well maybe you can put ads up for dog walking services or while you are gone services. Then you can see dogs.
I know you understand that you can't have a dog, but do you understand why? If your dad is afraid of them then it would be really selfish to keep asking for a dog. I'm sure he has his reasons.
Dogs are huge responsibility. I almost went nuts with my puppy. It is so hard to give them the time they need and you learn real quick how selfish you really are. Then there is the training. That is just as hard and very time consuming. I would see if you can get some jobs walking dogs or exchanging "let me play with your dog and I'll clean up the poop exchange".

I am sure you could still volunteer at a shelter especially if a parent or older sibling is willing to volunteer with you. You have to realize that when you do move out your Dad will most likely be stuck taking care of the dog. Also if you don't like cleaning the hamster cages are you going to like house training a dog and cleaning up it's accidents? Show your dad you are responsible and willing to help around the house and maybe he will soften up.

Since you can't work at a shelter, attend dog shows with a trusted adult (parents, aunts, uncles) and talk to some of the Jr. handlers. They can help you possibly find someone who will let you help with their dogs. Just be sure your parents know about anyone you are talking to online and are there when you talk face to face.
I know what it is like to want every dog you see at that age. They are wonderful. But remember that your hamsters are YOUR responsibility too, and a hamster is just as important a life as the dog's would be. Sure cleaning poo isn't very fun, but at least the hamster's poo is little. A dog's poo would be bigger than the whole hamster, and there WILL be times when you'll have to clean it up if you get a dog. Being responsible and caring for your hamsters will go a loooong way towards convincing your folks you are ready to be a dog owner.

Sounds like your Dad's calling the shots so a dog may not be in your immediate future. I'd love to have a dog right now but we're in a condo and we want something big and goofy with lots of space to be a dog.
Volunteering at an animal shelter is a fantastic idea, when you're old enough.
A good idea for right now may be dog walking .... you could even earn some cash while you're doing it to save up for your future puppy.
A lot of people that work full time dread the thought of walking the dog after a long day at work.
Sounds like a lucrative little business for you at least a couple of hours a week.

If you have hamsters and don't like to clean up after them a dog is no different you still have to clean up after it... If your dad is against getting a dog it's his house and his rules and I would venture to say that once you got the dog and got over the "newness" you wouldn't take care of it and he's be stuck with it.. Not a good thing.. I suggest you go to the local humane shelter and see if you could volunteer there.. They might need some help cleaning cages and such.... Or go to a friends house and play with their dogs.. Depending on how old you are you might want to try pet sitting for friend's and family that go out of town and need someone to let their pet out a few times a day and feed it....

if u dont like cleaning a hamster's cage, wait till u get a dog. especially if u get him when he/she is only a puppy, because they pee every 5 minutes all over your house until they are housetrained. i was also crazy for a dog, for 5 years i begged my mom for one, until i finally recaived a cute beagle as a b-day present. your parents probably think you are not ready to handle such a large responsibility, so i would suggest you try showing them that you can handle it. ask them if you can bring one of your friend's dog over for 1 week, to see if you can keep up with feeding, walking, bathing, grooming, and cleaning up after it. once they see you were able to handle a dog for a long period of time, they might think more openly toward the idea of allowing you to take on the task of a new puppy. also, present your parents with facts about the breed you want, ex: it's grooming needs, life span, friendliness towards others, ect. work out times in your schedule when you will be able to take your dog out for walks atleats two times a day. remember that, as with all pets, you start out enthusiastic and ecited about the new addition to the family, but after a while, say 2 months, you may start to get bored of it. anyway, hope this info was helpfull. p.s..... dogs are harder to clean than hamsters.....

sorry to say this, its your dad's house, his rules. Life is tough sometimes and you don't always get what you want. The time will fly by and you will soon be on your own (it sounds like fun, but isn't all that fun when you have to pay for things yourself). Then you will be able to get whatever you want if your finances and your landlord will allow it, if you rent an apartment. Be happy with what you have now, and look forward to what you can get when you move out. I want a puppy really bad too, but the place I am moving to wants a $250 deposit plus $50 a month to have one which is absolutely rediculus, so I have to wait another year.

That's life, kiddo. You might try studying to become a vet! You get the chance to work with alot of animals in vet school, or if you have any zoos or animal shelters nearby, you might get a job or volunteer with them, but the first job you will get is cleaning those cages!! Working with animals and cleaning up after them goes hand in hand. If you're not willing to clean their poop then you're not ready to care for them , I'm afraid.

Well dogs are a huge responsibility. Your parents might not think you are ready for one. So I would suggest that follow what they tell you for now. Save money for that time when you move out of the house and get the dog of your dreams when you do. It will be worth the wait.

Hamsters are so much easier to care for than a dog...try mopping up giant pee puddles and scraping dried terds off your front lawn. Just because they are cute, does not mean they are the ideal pet for everyone. They are a lot of work...I love dogs too, but after mine dies I think that's it.
