YOU ARE KIDDING. RIGHT? THAT'S RIDICULOUS

That's utter rubbish.

BUT If you want a great dog for your children (they are school-aged right?) go to a pet shelter and find a nice, mixed breed adult dog. Why? Because adult dogs are the size you expect. They come spayed or neutered (no puppies); are up to date on their vaccinations; are past the "chew on everything" stage; are generally house trained (few if any accidents in the house); play more gently with children (provided they are of school age).

If your children are younger than school age (6 or so) then wait until they are older before you get a pet. That's because very small children will, without knowing any better, torment a dog into snapping. Snapping - even in self defense - is still biting. That's painful for your children and unfair to the dog.

Wait until your children are at least school aged before getting a dog. - then go to the shelter and pick out an adult dog who will love you and your family for the rest of its life.

Sounds like some crossed wires somewhere. Maybe you're thinking of the diseases that can afflict young pups if they are not vaccinated? If you buy a puppy from a responsible breeder and keep up to date with the shots, there should be no health problems for the pups or the girls.

There is no way this is true. I have grown up with dogs and so have many of my friends and we are still fertile. A dog is a friend that kids should have and you dont have to worry about them being sterile

Puppies and girls are two distinct species... let us hope that they could not have kids in the future. Anyway, isn't it boys that are made of snails and puppy dog tails, and not girls?

I don't know where you heard that, but it's ludicrous. Don't listen to that person ever again, seriously! I've had dogs my whole life, and I have a 4yr old who's pratically a genius.
