Chihuahua's in my opinion are the perfect dog. They are protective so they will alert you if anything looks suspect & they are loving, they usually like to cuddle since they do get very cold. There compact size allows you to take them a lot of places without getting noticed. Be sure to note that there are no such things as Teacup Chihuahuas...some breeders market them as such, but really they are just very small dogs that may have some health issues in the future.
You have to watch them since they are small & tend to think they are bigger than they actually are. They like to jump on things and can end up with a luxating patella which is costly. Watch what they eat (especially food) they tend to choke on things a lot. Also, I would not have them around large dogs since larger dogs seem to think these chis are toys (if they are raised together that is okay, but otherwise I wouldn't do it). But don't neglect socializing them.
The most important & most difficult thing about these dogs are that they are dogs and not babies. Running them, disciplining them, etc. they become better dogs & seem to enjoy the structure, but don't forget to give them lots of love.

They are very vocal. They can be a bit on the nippy side. They come in short or smooth haired and long haired. The long coated dogs will need to be groomed about every 2 to 3 months. The small or tea cup's as they are called, have the most health issues, mostly because "tea cups" are litter runts bred together to make the smaller babies.(This is how 2 tea cup dogs can be 2 different sizes. One large and one not.)

there isn't enough space or time to tell you everything. a few pointers--if you have other " babies" you might check with relatives & friends that would be willing to raise your children while you tend to the needs (demands) of your real baby. be willing to share everything with it; food, time, money, your sanity. i swore i'd never have one, but i've had 3. now i have a half chiuahua/half weiner. that's a pretty good mix, if you keep calling it wein & ignore the chahuie-huie shivers. i highly recomend any rescue dog that has weiner dog background.

EVERYTHING!!!
Hiya Hiya I'm Jezebelle and I'm a 12 weeks old Sable (Grey) GSD/papillon and I'm here at Yahoo! Answers to answer dog questions from my point of view!
p.s. here is my site: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/566248...
This swift-moving little dog with its saucy expression, rounded skull and flaring ears is so small that it can get the exercise it needs just by running around the house or apartment. A sprightly pet, the Chihuahua is an ideal companion for an apartment dweller or a couch potato who doesn't care to indulge in long, outdoor walks.sounds fun fun!
but i like walks lots lots lots

Hope this helps ;D

First of all, read a dog book - then go and see breeders. Personal view - Chihuahuas are great - provided you treat them (mentally) like Dobemanns or Great Danes - they are BIG dogs in little teeny weeny bodies. Do NOT treat them like toys or babies - otherwise you will end up with a spoiled, bratty, yappy dog which everyone hates.

I have 2. My mother has 6. They are very tempermental and they tend to think they run the house. They are very clingy and need a lot of attention. Some do bark a LOT. They can be VERY fiesty!! Just make sure you have the time and temper for one because they are very needy however they can be very loyal and loving!

they are in the toy breed and there is only two kinds which is long haired and short haired.
They are the type of dog that will pick one person and attach itself to that one person so try to choose a dog that seems to want o be with you.
They can have drastic sugar drops. this can cause seizures and if not treated can kill
Do not leave on a couch or bed or any high place unless it can get up on it's own they can't determine the height and can get severely hurt if they jump

Chihuahuas are great dogs! Wonderful dogs. Fun, energetic, playful, happy. SMART!
That said, be sure to treat them as a DOG. Indeed, think of your Chihuahua as a big dog in a very small package - she'll require obedience training, discipline, confidence course - all the things that big dogs require - and you'll be glad you did - then you'll have one of the most outgoing charming and fun dogs in the world.
Just remember - big dog - tiny package.

You have to be VERY careful with what breeders you to go -- if they are breeding "teacup" chihuahuas, run far, FAR away (the same also true if they are not health testing their animals). There are also many homeless chis who can be found on www.petfinder.org.
Like any breed, chihuahuas are great dogs who are loaded with personality, as long as you let them be a dog and train them with positive reinforcement. As with any dog, please do plenty of research before bring one home

I have one, he thinks he is larger than he is and always barks at bigger dogs till they get close to him, then he runs and hides behind me. They do bark alot and have quite a bit of energy and like to tear their toys apart so make sure you get them something strong, mine likes tennis balls even though they barely fit in his mouth.
