I have some neighbors who have rather twisted views on what is considered abusive to animals. They have a full sized female black lab who is just the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Here's the problem. They believe that putting a dog on a leash is abuse so they don't control their dog when it's outside. The result has been my friend's infant being knocked out of her arms b/c the dog jumped on her and the dog's owners didn't do a thing! It's been left outside in pouring rain w/no shelter. Someone had to knock on their door & tell them to bring in the dog. They have also not once, but twice (that we have eye witnessed) locked their dog in the trunk of their honda accord! we called them out on it and the guy said "this is an expensive car man!". Oh please!!! We told him to lay down a sheet or leave the dog at home and he just sped away. We saw him do it again yesterday. I KNOW for a fact that is considered abuse. I have a photo of the 1st time. What can I do for this dog?

When they put the dog in the trunk they were going somewhere. But it's the middle of summer! The temperature can get over 100 degrees in less than 5 minutes! We asked them if they would at least put down one of the back seats for circulation and they refused because their car is sooo "expensive". That is no way to transport an animal of any kind!!

Also one other tidbit. We live on a military post and this guy is a soldier. We have sent off a letter and the photo to the local vet on post hoping they can take action and we have also contacted his command, which can investigate. I just wish I could go over there and take the dog and bring it to my house. I'm not one of those animal has more rights than humans people, but i do believe that animals have rights and the right to not be stuffed in a trunk applies!!

Call the police, animal control, or the humane society if they can't help you they should be able to at least guide you to someone who could help. That is animal abuse and that dog will die in the trunk in that heat if they are going a long distance. I am glad that you are going to step up and get the dog help. Keep taking pictures or videos of what you can this will help get the dog taken from your neighbors.

I would call the local humane society or anti-cruelty society, rather than animal control. This way, they may have a way to get the dog from the people and not have it running the risk of being put to sleep right away. This is abusive and needs to be dealt with. Aren't there people on the base that would find this offensive? Would an anonymous call to base officials help? Do you think the people would be willing to turn the dog over to a rescue league? Maybe if they thought someone would take the dog, they would let it go. (Some are connected with Petcos and Petsmarts).

Well if you catch the guy doing it again, don't talk to him see if you can find a police officer on duty, and ask if the officer is willing to follow you to the place the dog is located, then show him the proof that is not the first time they do that ,that will take care of those bad neighbor's and probably they even take the dog away from them.
The low down is,
If they do seize the dog..
She's gonna wind up on a shelter for adoption and her chances to survival are low,
But if shes a pure breed lab and as sweet as you mention it, she may have a good chance to be adopted,
so you have a tough choice..
You can try to adopt her but I don't think the neighbors are gonna like that.. ha-ha!.. :P
Or If they really apreciate her, they will go to the shelter, pay the fine and bring her back home with them...
I don't think they will try to do it again unless the wanna see the cops knocking at the door every single time they do it again.. :)

Keep a "diary", then report the dog to the animal control office, they will investigate, and with continued offenses, remove the dog to a safe place. You can also let them know that it is an assault and they can be charged for the dog being uncontrolled knocking the baby and people around. They will be fined, or sued, if that baby lands on it's head and is hurt.
Just read about the Trunk, those people need to be reported, it is now illegal to leave a dog in a car in CA, much less a trunk. Don't know where you live, but the trunk is no place for a dog.

Call SPCA NOW! Not tomorrow Not in an hour ... NOW!

So when they come by and they can wait til they get home and if they catch them taking the dog out of the trunk ... Then they will take the dog away so fast and they may never own a dog anymore ...

In the mean time while you wait for the SPCA please do take pictures on your cell phone or a camera so they have any proof of pictures to show to the judge and they will never own a dog or an animal!

Go call now!

Wow, weird neighbors. What they are doing may not be "legally" abuse, I don't know. They sound weird though, and you are probably wondering, as I am, what about the carpet and sofa inside the house? These are expensive too. The trunk thing could be considered abuse if you consider that there could be exhaust fumes inside, so now I'm thinking you are right.... it is abuse for sure. Do you have an ASPCA or Humane Society nearby that you can call? Talking to these people yourself probably won't work. Good luck

You need to call Animal Control. These people are endangering their dog and neighborhood children. You can put in an anonymous tip that these people are abusing their dog and endangering children. Hopefully the animal control people won't tell your neighbors that it was you that ratted them out. But really, I'd rather have the people know it was me and start taking some responsibility for the pet than know I let them get away with hurting a kid or possibly killing the dog. You might also suggest to them that there are carseat covers made for people with dogs.

Call the animal control department of your city/county and tell them what's happening. They'll come and investigate. This is definitely animal abuse. The dog could suffocate in the trunk. Show them the picture you took of them putting the dog in the trunk. Also, it is neglectful and mean to leave her out in the rain and bad weather. These people should not have a dog.

Tell the authorities, but also consider this, if the poor dog is found out to be abused, then the dog will probably be taken to a shelter till she can get a home, or someone will have to take her in.

Other thing, please do it right now, call the animal shelter or the cops. You should have the evidence handy and please, you shouldn't wait anymore!!! What if the dog gets hurt, it would be in your mind for yourlife, thinking you could have done something.
