My puppy is four months old. She is shedding quite a bit! I brought her home 3 weeks ago. The breeder had been feeding her Pedigree Puppy food. After some research, I switched her to Wellness Puppy Super 5 Mix. She eats approximately 3/4 cup daily. There is almost always 1/4 cup left at the end of the evening. I bathed her very well, using a recommended puppy shampoo. She is brushed thoroughly daily. However, she still sheds regularly. Is this typical of this breed? Please provide any suggestions, information, etc. if you are familiar with the CKCS breed.
Also, please give your opinion on the following recommendations: Nutro Puppy Food; Zoom Groom Brush; Furminator Comb; Rubber Curry; Fish, Salmon or Cod Liver Oil; LoShed Spray.
Thank you for your input.

I have 3 Cavalier's they shed moderately all year long but more during the summer. "Wellness" Food is an excellent food. Glad to here that you no longer feed Pedigree. That is the worst food you can feed a dog. Nutro isn't that good of a food either but it's slightly better than Pedigree. "Nutro" was on the recall list. The basics you need for grooming is a slicker brush, a metal comb, and a rubber curry brush. I've tried the furminator on my dogs and it didn't work too well with de-shedding them. The Curry brush works best for de-shedding.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have hair instead of fur and shed little to no hair. They will need to be shaved if you don't want to brush them. The don't have a normal tendency to bite as long as their parents had amazing temperaments. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels also are fairly smart and learn at an average rate. They are small dogs and will be fine in an apartment. They are great companions , as they are also considered "Velcro dogs" meaning they will follow you around. To get a cheap puppy you have to go to a shelter. Stay AWAY from pet stores and any place on craigslist that has a litter of puppies. If you want a puppy where you can be 99% sure of the temperament, for sure purebred, etc. you need to go to a reputable breeder. Shelters are never sure of what breed they have unless the dog came with papers. My local shelter said they had a Havanese, but it obviously wasn't unless it's ears were chopped off. If you can't recognize the breed from 10 miles away, and you want a purebred, it has to be from a breeder. But all in all, get a Cavalier mix from a shelter! I met one and wanted her so badly, but I couldn't get her. She was like a perfect puppy. I see them at least once a month, and you will probably find one quickly!

Cavaliers do shed like any other dog. Regular grooming will definitely help. Fatty acids like the Salmon oil will help keep the skin and coat in good shape. Haven't heard of anyone having too much success with the LoShed Spray. Nutro is generally a good brand of food. I have a Furminator but is doesn't work well with my dogs coat (Rottie).

Cavaliers shed alot. I have one too but if you just brush regularly you should be ok. I try to brush mine a couple times a week and keep on of those dog hair stick things around to pick up hair the brush misses. Do you mind me asking where you got your cavalier I'm looking for a female right now with champion lines?
