This might be a dumb question, but if they have long hair, doesn't the pee get on their fur? Or do you shave the belly part and just let the side hair hang over (so you can't really tell that the belly is shaved unless the dog is on it's back)?

I'm considering getting a male Samoyed, I'm just not sure how the hair/pee thing is going to work out with a male dog.

You can shave the tummy area but be careful not to give clipper burn, that is a sensitive area. Do not shave the scrotum! ! ! ! Scissor around there if you really have to but that area doesn't get wet with peeing.

Most don't need to be shaved cause they have a way of not getting it on them. If the fur gets darker & darker then he is peeing on his coat. Just scissor the dark hair.

I wondered the same thing when I got my dog. I have a shetland sheepdog. You can shave the belly if you want to. Nothing ever gets on my dogs fur though. They pee so it wont get on them. Samoyeds are beutiful...good choice in a dog. Good luck and I hope I helped!

Samoyeds are beautiful, sweet dogs. Their fur is work, though. You have to brush them a lot to make sure they don't get knots. But dogs usually do it so they don't pee on themselves. Sometimes there is some hair growing around that area, but you can clip it.

The groomer will shave the underside and the back legs and rear where the urine and feces tend to stick. Hairy dogs are messy. They need regular grooming to be "acceptable" odorwise.

Hairy dogs don't have much hair down by their privaits. I have a border collie and you need to brush them daily. Otherwise it can get knoted up down by the tail because that is where collies have the most hair.

MOST never have any problems....IF they do,you can TAKE (****NOT**** a DIY project!!!) to a PRO for a "sanitary" buzz.

In case you never LOOKED.....the coat is NOT long in the crotch!
