My 3yr old golden has been having seizures for, well since we've had him which is his whole life. he all of a sudden can't get up and starts to tighten or seize up and can't move. then he starts to drool and then after that he's all better and gets up but then he pukes up bile. i don't know really what to do w/ him. is it his breed or family genes?

I'm very sorry your golden is having such bad medical issues.
Golden's are not prone to seizure's. It is not Golden trait. It is most likely a result in the dog itself. It can be from poor breeding or an injury he sustained which at the time didn't seem life threatening. Please bring your Golden to the vet and have him examined. They have wonderful medications for seizure's now and your boy can live seizure free.

It sounds like a neurological problem. I would take him to the vet. They can put him on anti seizure medicine to slow them down and even stop them. There are certain parasites that can cause seizures like ticks or it could be a gene issue. It is uncommon for a Retriever to have seizures, so something else is going on. I have had four i nthe last 29years and nne of them had seizures and I have everal friends that own them and they havn't had this problem either. Did he have an injury to his head as a pup, or maybe a violent previous owner, or maybe he was exposed to antifreeze? These are all things that can cause them. You REALLY need to take him to the vet, a seizure can kill a dog if it gets too violent and the medicine is pretty affordable. It's just a matter of blood work to rule out some things and a physical and some meds and I think they could get him to a better quality of life.
Good luck with your baby, I hate to see animals in pain or suffering. Take care and I hope he gets better.

Your Golden Retriever has epilepsy. It's a condition that is just as common among animals as it is among us. There are anti siezure meds that your vet can prescribe for him.

I hope this a little. I had a purebred beagle and he had seizures and other health problems. Many purebred dogs do. Did you ask the vet about it? I hope he's feeling better.
