I have a 3month old beagle and I go away some weekends to the beach (2 hour drive). She loves it once we get there but along the way she throws up (she never throws up otherwise) unless you hold her and even if you hold her she salivates heavily.

Is there anything I can do to help her with this or is it just a matter of her getting used to riding in cars?

Any/all advice i s appreciated.

Thanks

We called the vet and they said to feed her rice/chicken for a couple of days. It didn't stop so the 3rd day we took a stool sample but no parasite. She was weak but she still ate a little food & water.

I have a Jack Russell/Beagle that chews everything whenever she gets the chance. I'm firm with her & she obeys me perfectly when I'm around, but she will sneak away or tear things apart when I'm not there. Other family members aren't as firm as I am, & I know that's part of the problem. She chews shoe laces, whole boxes of tissues, the toilet paper, socks, dirty clothes from hamper, paper, dryer sheets, etc. She's even started licking and gnawing into the drywall starting a hole in the wall.

She jumps up to get food from the counter or table. She would NEVER try this when I'm there, but when I leave the room or she's in the care of others, she is unrestrained.

She also nips and bites playfully at my 9-yr-old son, biting his pant legs, etc.

I follow the advice of the Dog Whisperer, and it's worked very well for me. I've been told J. Russells need strong-willed "pack leaders" and found that to be true.
She gets reasonable excercise too.

Hi, I have a longhaired chihuahua who is extremely hyper.. as soon as i come home she runs and runs and doesnt stop! She's always biting and when she's not biting, she has a horrible problem with licking EVERYTHING and EVERYONE! People don't even want to come over because she gives them a bath before they leave! She jumps on everything and everyone and is just overall really hyper! Whenever she sees someone she wants to play, and my neices and other children don't even want to pet her or go near her because she's so hyper, she scares them! She turned a year old on March 14th, and she is spayed. Is there anything I can do to make her calm down, and stop biting and licking everything? It's really annoying.. Please don't suggest obedience classes, and yes she does have chew toys. Can someone help me?

The only time, lately, I can take my dog for a walk is at 5am. I live in a heavly wooded area and bats are constantly flying around my head. I hate it, but my dog looooves her walks. Are bats vicious? Will they attack me? I heard that bats attack animals. Should I be scared or am I being a baby?

I may have to take in a Cairn Terrier puppy (lest he end up in the pound)...I already have a handicapped cat (cerebellar hypoplasia) so I am worried that with this being a terrier breed, he may be inclined to chase my kitty who really wouldn't be too good at running away. My kitty's comfort comes first, but I have a ton of experience with dogs. Can I train a dog to just kind of leave the cat alone? Any tips for socializing a puppy with a cat?

First of all, my dog's name is Zeus and he's a beagle and heeler mix. For some reason, he will not play fetch. I will throw a ball, he'll chase it down and bring it back, but will hold on and play tug of war basically. He has done this since he was a pup, and now he's almost two years old (human years). Also, he has a problem with biting and nibbling on people. His bites don't hurt, it's almost like a playful bite, but when he does it constantly it gets quite annoying. Any help for either of my two problems is greatly appreciated.

My dog, Bo, is around 11 years old (adopted, 3.5 years ago), a st. bernard/husky mix, about 100 lb.
He was recently diagnosed w/ lymphoma, probably stage 3. Comprehensive chemotherapy really isn't much of an option for us. So, prednisone alone was an option, and prednisone along w/ another med (a type of chemo) was an option as well, but obviously considerably more expensive, and I am moving in a couple of weeks, so somewhat unmanageable (that's not to say that I won't do it...just considering options).
Bo isn't showing any signs or symptoms, aside from the swollen lymph nodes.
I'm basically looking for any and all suggestions short of chemo that maybe the vet left out.
I'm also looking for any stories, good or bad, that people have that will help me be aware and help increase his time and improve the quality of his last days, whether it's a month or 2 years.
That is all, thanks for the replies.

I just got a new chihuahua and he eats more of the cat food than his own dog food. Should we just buy one food for all the animals or is he only eating it b/c it's new to him? It's all dry food, we don't give them canned food. I just want to make sure he gets all the nutrition he needs.

Okay my friends dog, a 9-10 yr old bully for the past 2 weeks has lost control of her hind end. She uses her front legs to get up and she can kinda fling her legs forward but has no control over them. she walks on her toes and lost major mucel mass in her hind area and was in pain. Nothing happened to her this was brought on all at once. They took her to the vet and he said theres no way to determend what is wrong with her. He gave her prednozone and antibiotics. The meds helped with pain but now she is loosing control of her bowls. She is so upset over this and dont know what to do. I told her to get a second opinon and she cannot right now cause the first three visits the that vet drained her of any extra cash and she wont get paid for another week. Does anyone have any idea what caused this? I personally think the is no good and she needs to locate another one.

My fiance is a landscaper. He has a customer that has a poor little dog in a rabbit cage. The family is hardly ever home. They have their own restraunt and spend most oftheir time there. I have known the people for 2 years now. They are really nice people and I don't want my fiance to lose them as customers. I am having one problem. I have watched this poor little for 2 years now. He is not neglected, as in he has food and water, and the cage is always clean. This is the only thing they do for him. Sometimes I go with my fiance when he cuts their grass. I will sit there and pet him and talk to him and he loves this. I feel so bad when I have to leave. I have talked to the neighbor and they have told me they never leave the poor dog out of the cage. I am getting tired of having to leave him there. Everytime I do it breaks my heart. I don't think this poor little dog deserves a life like that.

Our Golden has always been fed Innova EVO but had chronic ear infections. We had him allergy tested, and the results were whoppers -- food allergies include pork, eggs, soybean, lamb, flax or flaxseed oil, barley, brewers yeast and green peas. Also, no grasses (you'd be surprised what's in some dog foods).

I'm trying to find a HIGH quality kibble (no freezer room for raw, and canned is bad for his teeth) which does not have any of these ingredients, and preferably lists a protein as the first 2 or 3 ingredients. At this point, the only thing I've found is Royal Canin's Veterinary Diet Potato & Venison Large Breed, but the quality doesn't thrill me.

Any suggestions?

I love to watch dog shows and they are usually sponsored by Eukanuba or Purina or some other commercial dog food. Personally, I like Solid Gold for my puppy because of the ingredients. I know that everyone has his/her own food preference. I just wonder if the show dogs are being fed food that my vet says isn't that great. The dogs at the shows have beautiful coats and seem healthy.

My 17 month old pug vomits in the mornings. He doesn't throw anything up besides what looks like stomach acid that is a little yellow or brown..He was on medicince for an immune defficency called generalized mange, but the vet told us it was cleared up. When he would come off of it before, he would be sick, but its been months since he's had the medicine and the vomiting is only recently started. He is in good spirits, is eating, drinking and playing as much as he normally does...just wondering if maybe it could be the heat or change in the weather. The vet is soooo expensive and whenever I go, they always rip me off because they do things without asking me that arent necessary, such as charging me money for one drop they put in his eye to show me where a scratch was..(I was not happy with that!) Any thoughts or opinons are appreciated! Thanks

I'd really like some advice on what dog vaccinations are necessary and most important. i know vets have this information but they also tend to suggestion every medicine out there because that means more $$ spent. i know a rabies shot is important. but do dogs really need all those other shots like distemper, parainfluenza, parvovirus, bordetella, and lyme?? my dog is mostly an indoor dog so is it necessary for her to get all those shots? thanks!

p.s i got a sample of advantage multi from the vet. it is a topical medicine that protects against heartworms, fleas, worms, mites, and mange. so would that, combined with a rabies shot, be ok for my pomeranian?

We had a Welsh Corgi for 10 years. Recently he passed away due to kidney problems. The vet could not save him and I spent alot of money on opperations to try. The problem is now my 3 kids ( ages 7,5,4) are depressed over the loss of our dog and want a new one to replace him. Which we all know you can never replace a member of your family. The thing is I called local shelters and they want 300 dollars for the dogs. I don't have that spare money at this time because the vet bills drained alot out of us, and with mortage and our other bills, it's just not in the budget at this time. Does anyone know of anyone who has a litter of dogs in Connecticut, Mass, RI area? Or where I can get a dog to replace the one they had for free?
